Accidental Time Travel
The bizarre case of time slips
There are many stories and concepts that have deeply fascinated me. Stories that consist of that strange and hazy divide between science and the supernatural. One such concept that has always intrigued me is the bizarre phenomena of time slips.
Time slips = accidental time travel
The time slip theory is the concept of people accidentally and mysteriously traveling through time. Being an aspect of the unexplained, it's both fascinating and chilling.
It’s mentioned many times and is a popular trope for science fiction and fantasy stories, but could time slips and time travel actually be possible?
There are plenty of theories out there that suggest time slips might be possible. We’re going to get into some of these bizarre cases themselves. Upon hearing these stories, we can decide whether these people really did experience a time slip or if it was all just a figment of their imagination.
To me, time slips are bizarre and, in a sense, unsettling because they’re not supposed to be possible. They are a different aspect of the mysteries of the paranormal — a concept which too often defies explanation.
With a time slip, you’re in the same spot but in a different time.
Imagine minding your own business strolling along when the world around you suddenly changes. The buildings look different, maybe drastically different with some not being there before or not being there at all. People's attire look different, and there’s a heavy unsettling feeling that overshadows you.
That’s precisely what happened to a few that experienced a time slip. And some swear what happened to them was real.
The Strange Case in Liverpool, England
It is claimed that Liverpool, England is supposedly a hot spot for time slip cases.
It is here that one of the most well known and bizarre cases of someone experiencing a time slip has occurred.
A man named Frank was on his way to meet up with his wife at a bookstore called Dillon’s. What was meant to be a probably routine trip. That trip to the bookstore would soon take a strange turn and become something right out of The Twilight Zone.
The modern world what was then 1996 suddenly became that of the 1950’s. Vehicles, those looking strangely quite new, passed by on the streets. On the sidewalks, people passed by wearing 1950’s style fashion. I’m not sure what I would think experiencing something like that.
It gets even weirder. When he approached the bookstore, it wasn’t Dillon’s. and it wasn’t a bookstore at all. It was a women’s clothing store called Cripps. It wasn’t like he had gotten lost. He knew precisely where the bookstore was and my guess is that this wasn’t the first time he visited this bookstore.
What was especially notable about this incident was that the people he encountered interacted with him. While he unknowingly stepped out into the road, a spot that had been a sidewalk before, the driver of a van honked at him. Just as he was about to enter the clothing store (what was supposed to be a bookstore), a woman saw the same thing he witnessed — the clothing store had turned back into a bookstore.
The House at Bradfield, St. George.
This is another unsettling case. The kind where one questions whether or not what they saw was an illusion, a figment of their imagination or something more.
Back in 1926, a female teacher by the name of Miss Ruth Wynne took a stroll to the village of Bradfield, St. George with a pupil. Along their walk, they stumbled across an elaborate house hidden behind overgrowth and a stone wall.
When they returned to the location that next spring, there was no evidence of a house ever being there.
Had such a house ever been there? Did they unknowingly travel to a time when such a house did exist?
Can these cases easily be debunked? Is there a rational explanation? Quite likely.
Then again, aren't there things of this world that can't be explained?
Here is a You Tube video that I highly recommend that takes a deep dive into the strange phenomena of time slips. The Why Files is a much watch You Tube channel and podcast in general:

Jasmine, This is so good. I have had time slips before in the apt. here in Riverside, CA. I believe in different realities. I dream events before they happen and sometimes have out of body experiences in my dreams. IT is in MY DNA as well as art. LOVE THIS STORY!
This piece perfectly balances fascination and skepticism. I appreciate how you highlight both the eerie, unsettling aspects of time slips and the possibility of rational explanations.
Fascinating dive into time slips, Jasmine! Your recounting of Frank's Liverpool encounter really captures that eerie blend of the familiar and the impossible—it's like stepping into a living history book without warning. T
woo!!
Back to say congratulations on your Top Story! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊
Interesting bit of writing - Time Slips definitely are a mystifying, yet quite possible, event. I am also largely intrigued by Einstein's theory of Parallel Worlds. Congratulations on your Top Story!
I love everything time travel (books, movies, TV shows etc.)... But I'm not sure I believe timeslips are real. It's a very interesting concept for sure, but if you think deeply about time and space are, it just doesn't make sense that we can just slip into a different time. Honestly, it might be more believable that it's a different dimension because dimensions would occupy the same space, so there might be a case where someone slips in somehow. At the moment the only way science can explain how time travel might happen, is by travelling faster than the speed of light. At that speed, time would tick on very slowly for you (or whatever is at that speed), and everything outside would be going at the normal speed, so when you stop travelling at that speed, you would technically have travelled to the future. Even in this explanation, we can't travel to the past. It would be amazing if we could, but I don't think scientists have even a slight clue on how to manipulate time, other than using the speed of light etc. 😞
Oh wow, I don't think I've ever heard of time slips before. Those incidents you included are so intriguing!
