Seals and Bounty: The Protector

Chapter 3

By Ireland Lorelei Published 4 years ago 3 min read

Bryan

Bryan hung up the phone shaking his head. He could already tell that this was going to be an interesting meeting. He really wasn’t looking forward to it, but at the same time, he’d rather go ahead and get it out the way, so that he could turn the job down and move on to find something more suitable for him.

He walked out of his office to see the whole office crew Kadon, Wyatt, Carol, Terry, and Derrick all standing facing his office door waiting on him to come out.

“What?” he asked sarcastically. “I called and set up a meeting. Are you all happy?”

Terry busted out laughing. Kadon, Wyatt and Derrick tried to hold a serious face. But Carol, his sister, she couldn’t hold in anything. “

“Well big brother (They were twins. He was a minute older than she was), where are you going to meet the beautiful senator’s daughter? I bet you will not be meeting her here! I seem to remember a little story from high school where little Katie Grant had a crush on you, but you wouldn’t give her the time of day. So, now you think that once she connects the dots and realizes that it is really you, that she is going to give you her ass to kiss. But this time you may want too!” Carol bellowed out.

Now the three guys all stared from Carol to Bryan trying to figure out what Carol was talking about.

Finally, Terry spoke up first. “Wait a minute. Are you saying that Katie Grant had a thing for Bryan in high school and he gave her the cold shoulder? That explains you attitude about taking the job. You are realizing that you had to have been the dumbest joker in the world to let her walk away!”

The other guys laughed for a second then waited on a reply.

Bryan just shook his head until Wyatt spoke up and said, “Well, are you going to give us details or do we get Carol’s version of the story?”

Carol bellowed over in laughter and said, “Oh, I would love to tell the story! Katie is a year younger than us and her junior year, she wanted Bryan something bad. Her dad had just became the governor and Bryan was terrified to talk to her. That’s why when Senator Grant called he asked for Bryan personally. He knew that Bryan broke Katie’s heart, but that he might be the only person she would listen too. But Bryan thinks that she is going to pay him back for what he put her through. Trust me there is so much more to the story!”

“Well, we want all the details,” the guys said in unison.

“Really, there isn’t that much to talk about. I was on the football team and she was a little nerdy girl with glasses and braces. She really wasn’t attractive like she is now. Anyway, I blew her off. She had written me this really sweet note about how she felt about me, and well, I kind of passed the note around to the entire football team and from there it got to some of the other seniors, male and female. She became the laughing stock of the school. I do look back now and think that I was very egotistical,” Bryan responded.

“Man you were a real ass,” Derrick said. “I’d be scared too. Her daddy may just want you to protect her, knowing that you would take a bullet for her and could die!”

Everyone started laughing again.

“Okay, that’s enough. But yes, I can agree that I was a real ass because if anyone had done that to Carol, I would have beat the hell out of them,” Bryan said. “Now if you will all excuse me, I need to go meet her. Feel free to talk about me behind my back.”

Katie

As Katie was getting ready to leave, she had this crazy thought. Was Bryan Shaw, the same Bryan Shaw she went to school with? It couldn’t be him. He left for the military right out of high school. Would he have come back here?

She just brushed those thoughts away. If it was him, there was no way she was letting him be her bodyguard. Hell would freeze over first and she would tell that to her father.
