Chapter 7

Bryan

Bryan woke up around 0500. He had plenty of time to get ready before heading over to Katie’s penthouse. When he got out the shower, he threw on a pair of jeans and a polo shirt. He was trying not to look like a bodyguard. After he was dressed he headed downstairs for a cup of coffee and to watch the news.

At 0600 he grabbed his gun and headed to Katie’s. When he got there, the doorman asked him who he was going to see. Once he told him that he was here to see Katie Grant, the doorman replied, “Oh, you’re the bodyguard. She told me about you this morning so that we were aware of your presence coming and going. This key will get you in the elevator for the penthouse.”

“Yes, and thank you,” Bryan said as the doorman pointed him in the direction to the elevator. “How does everyone else get to the penthouse?”

“They have to be taken up by one of us,” the doorman replied.

“Okay, thanks,” Bryan said as he headed to the elevator.

When the doors to the elevator opened, they opened right into the suite. He got out and walked through the short hallway. When he got to the opening, there she was standing in the kitchen making a cup of coffee. Her hair was in a towel and another one was wrapped around her body. What the hell was she up too? If that towel feel, he could only imagine what her body looked like under it. Before he let his mind wonder anymore, he cleared his throat.

She turned around and said, “I am so sorry. I couldn’t sleep last night. Feel free to grab a cup of coffee, a croissant and cut on the TV. Cups are in the cabinet beside the stove on the right. I will be back in a few minutes.”

“It’s okay. I can use another cup of coffee,” he said back trying his hardest not to stare. She really was a beautiful and sexy woman.

He grabbed a cup from the cabinet, a croissant from the counter, then cut on the TV that hung in the corner of the dining room. He sat down at the bar between the two rooms to wait for her.

When she came back out, she glanced at him and said, “I’m ready. Are we supposed to drive one car? I really don’t know what to expect or what to do.”

“I will drive you. We can take your car if you prefer or my truck. That is up to you. Everything else, let’s just play it by ear, day by day as we go. There are a few basics we can discuss on the drove over to your office,” he said as he got up off the stool and put his cup in the sink.

“Okay sounds good. Let’s take your truck today. Tonight we will take my car,” she replied back as she headed to the elevator.

They stepped into the elevator and Bryan asked, “Tonight? What are we doing tonight?”

“I have a meet and greet in LA tonight with some fashion houses. If you don’t own a tux, I can have one delivered to your house. There will be a helicopter waiting at the airport for us at 4:30 this afternoon. It completely slipped my mind when we were talking last night,” she replied.

“Okay, it’s part of the job. And I have a tux. I will be here to pick you up at 1500 for the airport then,” he replied.

“I am not that great with military time. Is that 3:00?” she asked.

“Yes, that’s right,” he said with a giggle. “I will make sure I help you with understanding military time!”

When they walked to his truck, he went to her side and opened the door for her.

“You don’t have to do that,” she said.

“I will never allow a woman who is riding with me open her own door, especially one that I am hired to protect. For one, contrary to what you remember from high school, I am a gentleman. Second, it keeps you from being exposed if someone tried to harm you,” he said back before shutting her door when she settled inside.

The drive to her office was just going over a few more basic things that would change for her where he safety was concerned.

Once at her office, she went to work on some designs and he looked around her office, checking locks, escape routes, easy access areas to the public, and then made some phones to the guys about some things in the office that he wanted them to come change the locks on or upgrade and had them put in a camera outside the front and back doors.

When he was done he went and told her what he was having done. She said okay and kept working not paying him any attention. But he couldn’t stop watching her. The grace of her hands as she drew with colored pencils. He wondered why she wasn’t using the iPad. He would have to ask her on the way home about her process. For some reason, he just wanted to find out what made her tick. What were her goals, dreams and deepest desires.
