Seals and Bounty: The Hired Gun
Chapter 3: Taking the Job

Kadon
As the driver held the car door open, Doug and Ms. Lane got into the limousine. I motioned for him to shut the door so that I could speak with him for a few minutes. If he was going to be her permanent driver, then there were things that he would normally do, that now I would do. We needed to make sure we were both on the same page.
I held out my hand to him to shake his and introduced myself, “Hey, I’m Kadon, Ms. Lane’s personal bodyguard while she is in town. I was only assigned to her 24/7 security within the last hour. I want to make sure we are on the same page because there are some things that you will need to know and you will need to be okay with staying on as her driver.”
“Hey, I’m Jason. Please explain,” Jason replied as we are still shaking hands.
“There was an attempt on Ms. Lane’s life today. She was shot at. I was able to get to her in time, but she was grazed on her arm. This means that I will be staying here with her, and that I will have another partner join me on outings. I will open her door from now on to make sure that there are no threats when she is getting in or out of the car. I don’t know what your training is. If you are more than just a driver, and I know some of you are, then you are more than welcome to stand out of the car, get one of our earpieces and help us look out and be a part of the detail. Also, I need to know, if you are going to stay, are you defensive driving trained, because if not, that will determine if I need to get one of my guys to come in and drive instead.”
“Kadon, I completely understand. I am Lt. Jason Cooper, Retired US Army Special Forces. I took this job to help protect the talent that comes into the area. So, yes, I am trained in protecting, I am also trained in defensive driving. I took a few courses after I took this job, and one of those was inside a limo. I will stay on as part of the team and take my orders and directions from you,” Jason replied.
With a stern smile, I replied, “Jason, that is great news. Welcome aboard! When all of this is over, I would love to introduce you to my team. We are all Retired Navy Seals who own the Seals and Bounty Security Firm.”
“Thank you Kadon. I look forward to working with you and getting to know your team. I am new here and this is my first job since my retirement. I just wanted to continue to protect and serve,” Jason said.
We shook hands again and then I got in, I sat across from Tally and Doug. They started talking about the movie and the script. I wasn’t listening. I just went into my own thoughts.
Since I left the Navy Seals, I have always been the lead guy at the firm to handle all of the private security for the wealthy. I have done many billionaires, that included a few music artists and CEOs, but mostly boxers and UFC fighters. This is my first movie star and I had to start with a female? Just my luck that she gets shot at and it changes to a 24/7 gig. She’s probably hardheaded, stuck up with an attitude that will not listen to a thing I have to say. An associate in the field that I had met at a security conference a few years back, said that movie stars were the worst to protect. He said that you may find a few that would cooperate, mostly the ones that had been in the business a long time and had a better understanding of what comes along with the fame, but the rest, thought that they owned the world and that included you. They demanded that you listen to them and they didn’t have to listen to you.
About that time, we pulled up at the hotel. The valet opened the car door and she went to get out first and I put my arm out, looked at her and said, “Sorry dear, I have to go first to make sure the coast is clear.”
She looked up at me, smiled and said, “I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking. Please go first.”
Well, that was pretty easy. Was that all a show in front of her manager to show that she was going to play nice or was she really going to cooperate? Maybe she really understood that her life was in danger and in order to stay alive she had to play by my rules.
As I was stepping out, I held my hand out to make sure she stayed in the car and said, “Please stay in the car until I give the all clear.”
She replied with a simple, “Okay.”
I looked around and there were people walking up and down the streets, but no one looked to be paying any real attention this way. It was a normal busy day on the Strip. I turned and looked towards the hotel and then shut the car door, walked into the lobby, and checked the path from there to the elevators. Well damn, I have never been inside the Dignitary Discretion Las Vegas Hotel. I heard it is approximately $2700/night. Even the top fighters in the world didn’t stay here, they just preferred the MGM Grande. But I guess it is about taste too. Everything was clear, so I walked back to the car and opened up her door.
“Okay, Ms. Lane, you can come out now,” I said as I held out my hand for her to take. She grabbed my hand and got out as the driver got out and opened up the other door for Doug to get out of the car.
When we got in, the concierge met Doug at the elevator with a key card and said, “Mr. Rogers, here are the keycards to the new suites you requested. You have both been moved to the top floor.”
“Thank you. I appreciate all of your help in taking care of this for us and your understanding. Have all of our belongings been packed up and moved?” Doug asked.
“You’re welcome, and yes Sir. The staff has moved everything and unpacked it for you both as well,” the concierge replied.
“Thank you again,” Doug replied as the elevator bell sounded and the doors opened.
Once inside, he handed me a key and said, “Top floor. I had the rooms changed to bigger suites Kadon so that you could have your own room. I wanted to make sure you were comfortable. If your co-worker stays, then he can have the couch!”
“Thank you Doug. I do appreciate that,” I said, hitting the button for the 29th floor.
Before we get off the elevator I look at her and say, “I will need you to wait right inside the door when we walk in so that I can check the whole suite.”
“Okay, I understand,” she replied.
We walk in and her and Doug both stay by the door. I went through the suite to make sure there was no one hiding in any of the rooms. I checked all the cabinets and drawers in all of the rooms as well to make sure there were no bombs.
“Everything is clear. Bryan should be here in a few minutes. When he gets here, he will need to go into your room Ms. Lane as he is going to sweep the whole place for any bugs, and any small electronic devices that are too small for the eye to catch with some equipment we have. Doug, he will also go down and sweep your suite as well.” I told them.
“Okay, that’s fine,” they both said in unison.
“Kadon,” Tally said with a shy smile, “Once again, please call me Tally.”
“Yes, Tally,” I replied with a grin.
She then headed to her room.
Doug said, “Kadon, I am going to leave you to your work. I am going to head to my room for a shower and to make some phone calls for tomorrow's shoot, and reschedule the interview from today. Just have your associate knock on the door when he needs to get in and I will see you tomorrow morning. We can meet here, say 5 am. Shooting starts at 7 am. Breakfast is served on the set. Dinner tonight, just order room service. If you like to cook, tomorrow we can make a grocery list and have someone go to the grocery store for food you will both eat.”
“Thanks Doug. And yes, I would like to cook for at least some days,” I replied.
He then walked out the door. As I went to the living room area, sat on the couch and turned on the TV, I heard the shower cut on in her room. Hopefully she will be able to relax.
