Seals and Bounty: The Bodyguard
Nervous in More Ways Than One - Chapter 3 - Short Story

Mari
"Mari, we will not do any release papers unless you have someone either staying with you tonight, or you are staying at someone else's house. It is too dangerous for your health. You have a mild concussion and you shouldn't be alone," Dr. Wilson said.
I just shook my head and then I saw Wyatt and the officer standing outside of the room.
"Doctor, I have someone going home with me, Wyatt. He's the security guard from my job. He is worried the guy will come back that tried to kidnap me tonight. There will also be a police officer in a car outside," I replied. I felt I had to explain who Wyatt was and why he would be at my house. Why I didn't understand because it wasn't anyone's business and it was no big deal.
"Okay then. Let me talk to him so that he knows your home-care instructions," Dr. Wilson said and walked out of the room.
Oh no, I hope Wyatt doesn't mess this up and lets Dr. Wilson think he was going to be inside the house. Hopefully, he will not be mad that I told the doctor a lie. He was in my line of sight, and I really hate hospitals and don't want to stay here one night.
Wyatt
"Excuse me, are you, Wyatt?" I heard someone say.
I turned around to see the emergency room doctor walking towards me and replied, "Yes Sir, I am."
"Wyatt, my name is Dr. Wilson, and I have been evaluating Mari Stanley tonight. She has a mild concussion and is refusing to stay overnight so we can monitor her. She informed me you will go home with her tonight. Is that correct?" Dr. Wilson asked.
"Yes, that is correct. I am going to be sleeping on her couch tonight for protection and to make sure that she is okay. Do you have any special instructions for me as far as her medical care?" I replied.
"Great. She will need to be woken up approximately every two hours. If for any reason she doesn't wake up, you need to call for an ambulance immediately. She can take Tylenol for the headache. If the headaches get too bad, you will need to bring her into the hospital, or if she gets dizzy or throws up at all, then she will need to come back to the emergency room. You will need to watch her for the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours. If she were here under our care, we would reexamine in twenty-four hours to see if she could go home," Dr. Wilson said.
"That will not be a problem, Dr. Wilson. I will make sure I follow your instructions. Do you know when she will be ready to leave?" I asked.
"I will have the nurse finish the paperwork up now to release her." Dr. Wilson said. "Have a good night and if you have questions, you can call me. I am on duty until 7 o'clock in the morning."
The officer and I continued to talk while we waited on her to be released.
"I will take her straight home in my car. I can have her car brought to her house tomorrow. Will you follow us there? What are your orders if I may ask?" I said to the officer whose name showed 'Rodriguez' on his uniform.
"That is a great plan. I will follow you to her house. I will park on the curb in front of the house. Every hour and a half, I will do a perimeter search of the property. At any time, you hear something or need me, you can call my work cell phone. I can give you that number now. At 0600, my relief will show up and I will come to the door and introduce you two," Rodriguez said.
"Okay, that sounds good," I said as I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket to take his cell phone number.
"My number is 555-555-1234. If you call it now, I will have your number and know it is you calling," Rodriguez said.
"Thank you. I am calling you now," I replied as I hear Mari come up behind us saying my name. I turn to see a nurse wheeling her out in a wheelchair.
"Are we ready to go?" I asked.
Mari
I couldn't believe it when Dr. Wilson came back into my room and said that Wyatt confirmed he would sleep on my couch, and I gave him all of my release instructions for the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours. So that meant that he had agreed to stay with her for the next forty-eight hours, waking her up every two hours for the next twenty-four hours. Lord, I really pray that I don't automatically and unconsciously suck my thumb for him to see, but how do I stop myself.
As the nurse walks in with the wheelchair, I am suddenly very nervous. What would this man think of her, if he realizes I am a Little if he even understands what that is. He may just think I am crazy as hell.
He heard us coming and turned, "Are we ready to go?" he said.
I replied, "Yes we are, and thank you again for coming home with me. I am sorry that you feel you have to protect me and even worse now that you have to actually take care of me. I never want to be a burden to anyone."
"First, this was my decision and second, you can never be a burden, especially to me. Now let me go get the car," he said in a caring voice.
Turning to the officer, he said, "I will be right back with my car. Mari, this is Officer Rodriquez, and he will be the overnight officer sitting outside the house."
He walked out then, and my stomach was in knots. I really didn't want to be a burden, but I am happy he will take care of me. It's funny how life works sometimes, I have always had a little crush on him. But I knew my lifestyle would him run away like it had every man she had dated.
