Collars-

In today's world collars are used as a fashion statement outside the bdsm community. But within the community it's a claim to those within it of being taken. There are many types within these that have different uses.

The day collar is one that can be worn anywhere. It can be a simple necklace or a choker. This one will say she or he is taken but to the world it's just jewelry. Life in this way is as one sees it. You will know by one question if the person is in the lifestyle or aren't.

Play collars are ones used in scenes between the dom and sub pair. Most are leather but they can be chain or something else. It depends on the pair. In my case I would prefer one I handmade or picked depending on use with it.

Claiming collar or permanent collar. This is the collar that is like a marriage; it's a commitment of permanence. It is most often used when one marries their sub or dom. It is a symbol to the whole community that this pair is long lasting and invested.

One often thinks it's just the sub that wears the collar but both sub and dom can wear one, it's a preference that a pair has. I myself would wear a chain with a lock even though I am a dominant female. I would like the community to know when I am in a fully committed and trusting partnership meant to last.

Now the materials used to make the collar can be anything. There are leather collars. Actual dog collars are used sometimes too. Chain can be used in a collar. A collar can have a tag or just a symbol on it. Even a D ring to use in play. The point is a collar is just as flexible as our desires are in what we do.

Gear-

There are all kinds of gear that can be used in bdsm. Even clothing is a part of the gear at times depending on the type of play going on. The gear used depends on the pair and what types of play they are into. From hoods to chains it's all a part of the gear one would need for play.

Rope is a bondage gear that is used in many different types of play. Like shibari which is the art of rope tying that can be very intricate yet very beautiful. It can be used to bind or just hold a person's body. Medical Shears are normally used as a precaution when using rope in case of the need to quickly remove the rope from the person tied with it.

Hoods come in a wide range of kinds. There are hoods for pet play. There are hoods for sensory play. Either one comes in many forms. Like there are latex hoods and leather hoods. Each has their own upkeep they need for the material used to make them.

Whips and floggers are another gear used in play. Be it sensory or pain. They can be fur for sensory play or leather for other types of play. There are other materials they can be made from. But one needs to be well acquainted with them to use them properly.

Chains just like rope can be used to bind the body. This type one must be more careful as you lock the chain and must have bolt cutters or be fast with the key if need to remove quickly. They can be in the form of shackles or handcuffs.

No matter what type of play your into, know the precautions you have to take. And always know your gear and maintain it to a high standard. No one is safe if the gear is not maintained and upkeep to a high standard.
