Code is everywhere. They sat playing cribbage.

“So, you’re saying they’re not playing God with this new procedure?” Cousy Mandalay asked. His brown face wrinkled.

Barrett Kohn smiled presenting his white teeth against elderberry skin.

“I’m saying when are we not playing God? Or better yet, when are we not working as God? We don’t run as fast as horses…we craft trains and automobiles. Birds can fly. Can we do it naturally? No, so we devise airplanes. We’re perfecting the plans of an imperfect being that doesn’t exist.”

Mandalay looked up from his cards.

“Without God we can survive….”

“Yes.”
