Winter is Coming

Oh, god, it's here already.

I freeze in place at the sight before me. In this liminal space - white desensitized walls rising high above while semi-organized lines of sheep part around my frozen corpse - I am but a single flake of ice in this storm.

It's all consuming and suffocating, and it comes earlier and earlier each year. No one can stop it, and there isn't a being powerful enough in all the world to halt the coming blizzard.

This cage where we barter for our possessions will become buried - and all sanity will be lost in the chaos. The sheep will bleat and bring their bundled young to crowd the markets with their senseless wishes.

The fall leaves have barely turned, the air still stuck between the heat of summer and the temperate release of autumn - the world is in transition, and yet these absolute cheery fucks have to puke all over it.

I glower at the Christmas display, my knuckles turning white on my shopping cart.

God, I miss Halloween.

Oh I loved the idea of this challenge so much! I'm sure if you watch any kind of fantasy TV you will know that "Winter is Coming" is a well-known phrase from "Game of Thrones". It was too easy to twist the dark and very foreboding message into an amusing, modern day nightmare!
