Watching the Sun Glow

I wrote this loosely based on project sunshine, but this was more for a fun time plot idea instead of a whole story line.

The clock struck 4 as the alarms began. Alice was unaware of what was happening around her, being deaf. All she knew was that something was wrong. Extremely wrong. Before, the world was dark, and everything was quiet. Now, it was like watching the sun glow. In the distance, a mushroom? No, a cloud! What was that thing? Alice was trying to comprehend what it was when she was ripped away from the sight, her mother tugging her toward the Bombing bunker, but Alice suddenly stopped. She stood and watched..the cloud getting darker..and darker..until a blast of light blinded her. She turned away, a burning sensation against her back. She got into the bunker, but by the force of the shock wave. When she got in, and the doors were shut, people stood there..puzzled. She was still alive, sure, but with no damage other than a little rash on her back? Alice thought it had been seconds that she had waited, but no. She was out there a few minutes after the bomb dropped, having full exposure to the radiation. The people in the bunker knew that now Alice was used to scavenge for them, to hunt for life. She was like a walking camera, watching the time-lapse of the outside world after the bomb dropped, as radiation burned into buildings, plants and soil becoming unable to walk on. The world was only now seen as a wasteland, and the people of the city were simply subjects to be studied on by the rich who had access to the outside with protection from all radiation. One day, Alice leaves the bunker as she normally does, just to never return. She was taken by the controllers, the scientists. As she’s fighting to escape, she loses consciousness, losing all chances of staying. Her eyes opened to the lights above her, almost as blinding as the first day. She was strapped to a metal table, the room dark. There were multiple lines inside her arms, filling with fluid. Alice sat up, only to see a figure sneaking into the room. The figure came close, seeing that Alice was awake. It was the Controller's daughter, who was tasked with watching the girl as she lay dormant. This girl was Donna, And when Alice felt no hope, Donna spoke. The two were going to help each other. Alice was used as the subject to be tormented, and Donna was the one escorting the subject to every location, to move property from one place to another. When Sr-90 broke out (As the bomb detonated), The real colors of Donna’s father were revealed. He left her to perish in the world, while he went to hide. She barely survived, but wanted to prove she was something to him. The two stayed dormant for a few weeks, watching guard changes, outfit swaps, people come in only to be tested on. Then, when the night grew long and the days grew short, They took their flee. Unfortunately..only Alice could escape. The realization that she lost her only friend..Alice was alone again. She felt lost, until she saw something..familiar. It was her home! It had lasted this whole time! but..Alice didn't want to go back to the bunker. She didn't want to go back to being nothing. As she got into her home, there was scavenger trash everywhere..but nobody was there. She collapsed into the chair that her mother once signed her in, and opened a can. Inside the can was food that made Alice feel..comfort. The comfort made her feel at peace, the silence that she always heard..sounded perfect.
