Lao Mao's son was admitted to university and went to study in the city, so Lao Mao followed his son into town and opened a small shop specializing in festive supplies.

The shop opened smoothly, and one morning as soon as the door was opened, a man walked into the store, took out a stack of money, and said, "Please take down all the firecrackers on the counter!"

Lao Mao was startled: What was this for? Was it the mob?

The man noticed Lao Mao's panic and quickly said, "Don't be afraid! I'm not a bully or a gangster. I just want you to stop selling any firecrackers from now until tomorrow when you close, and you can sell as much as you want on other days!"

Lao Mao was relieved and said, "My shop has just opened, and I'm looking for a smooth start. You're asking me to stop business for two days, there must be a reason."

The man nodded and explained the reason.

It turned out that the man's boss's son had committed murder and was sentenced to death, to be executed by firing squad tomorrow. There would definitely be many people setting off firecrackers to celebrate. His boss didn't want to hear the sound of firecrackers tomorrow, so he mobilized his subordinates to pay all the shops in the city to stop selling firecrackers.

Lao Mao asked, "Is it because your boss's son was too bad, and everyone hates him?"

The man glanced at Lao Mao and said, "You just came from out of town, right? There's an unwritten rule in our city that whenever there's an execution, we set off firecrackers! Our boss has already suffered enough from losing his son; if he hears the sound of firecrackers, it's like stabbing him in the heart!"

Lao Mao asked again, "Why doesn't your boss leave here tomorrow so he won't hear the firecrackers?"

The man sighed and said, "He only has this one son, he has to stay to collect his son's body!"

Lao Mao was unfamiliar with the local situation and didn't want to offend anyone, so he agreed. The man said "Thank you" and gave Lao Mao two thousand dollars before leaving.

As soon as the man left, a bearded man came in and said to Lao Mao, "Please sell me all the firecrackers in your store at a price that's 5% above cost!"

Lao Mao quickly said that a man had just come and asked him not to sell firecrackers.

The bearded man disdainfully said, "That man must have been sent by Cai. Cai's son committed many evil deeds, and he deserves to be executed. Of course, we should set off firecrackers! To be honest with you, I'm going to buy all the firecrackers in the city and hand them out to everyone tomorrow at noon to celebrate this good thing."

It turned out that the man's boss was surnamed Cai. Lao Mao had just promised not to sell, and now he was about to sell to the bearded man, which made him feel uneasy. He was hesitating when the bearded man gritted his teeth and said, "I'll increase the price by 10%, is that okay?"

Lao Mao had brought in a lot of firecrackers, and a 10% increase would be a considerable profit. His heart pounded, and after a moment of hesitation, he nodded and said, "Deal! Pay up and take the goods away quickly, and don't let Boss Cai find out."

The bearded man was very happy, took out his wallet to pay, when Lao Mao's phone rang. He took it out, answered it, and his face turned pale. He hurriedly took the call to the back room and after a while, came out to say to the bearded man, "I'm sorry, I have an urgent matter to deal with right now, I don't have time for this business."

As soon as Lao Mao finished speaking, he closed the shop door and left in a hurry.

What could be more urgent for Lao Mao than making money? Well, Lao Mao really encountered an urgent matter. Because just now his son called and said, "Dad, I want to kill someone!"

Lao Mao was so frightened that he almost dropped his phone. His son had always been timid and only focused on studying. He had just come to the city from the countryside for university, how could he have such a terrible idea?

Lao Mao asked who he wanted to kill, and his son said through gritted teeth, "I want to kill those guys in my dormitory. They look down on me, they think I'm poor, they think I'm a country bumpkin, and they mock me at every turn! Yesterday, they peeked at my diary, found out that I like a girl in my class, and urinated on my bed, telling me to look at my own appearance..."

His son hung up after saying this, and when Lao Mao called back, the phone was already turned off. You say, could Lao Mao not be worried?

Lao Mao hailed a taxi and rushed to his son's school. When he arrived at his son's dormitory, it was already dark. He went in and asked, and all the students in the dormitory said they didn't know where Lao Mao's son had gone. Lao Mao was sweating profusely and kept calling his son's mobile phone, but it was always turned off.

Lao Mao searched all night and didn't find his son. Until dawn, he still didn't give up, kept calling his son's phone, and searched everywhere, but still didn't have any news of his son. He was too tired to move, so he sat down on a stone bench by the road. As soon as he sat down, his phone rang, and he quickly took it out and answered. His son's familiar voice came from the phone: "Dad, where are you?"

Lao Mao's tears flowed down, and he cried, "Son, don't do anything foolish!"

His son said, "Dad, I've come to your store! I wanted to see you one last time before going back to kill someone, but now you can rest assured, I won't kill anyone. I'm going back to class right now!"

His son said that he had sat in front of the store all night, and until dawn he still hadn't seen his dad, so he wandered around the vicinity. In the afternoon, suddenly there was a lot of firecracker noise in the city, even more lively than the New Year. He heard people nearby saying that the government executed a murderer today, and people were celebrating this joyous event. Lao Mao's son was stunned, thinking that if he killed someone, he would definitely be executed, and people would also set off firecrackers to celebrate like today. At that time, his dad would be very sad if he heard such firecracker sounds. It's not worth dying like this! So, he decided to live well and better than the people he wanted to kill.

Lao Mao knew his son didn't want to kill anyone anymore and was so happy that he almost jumped up, stammering, "Son, it's good to understand, it's good to understand..."
