Love on Enemies
One War, Two Hearts,
Lviv, Ukraine, late 2021. The snow-covered city still has no sign of war. Anastasia Petrova, a talented musician and student of the Kiev Conservatory, has come to Lviv to participate in a classical music competition. Her life's dream—to one day play the violin on the world's best music stage. That's when she meets Alexei Mikhailovich—a Russian journalist who has come to cover the competition. Alexei is calm, elegant, and has a strange depth in his eyes. Something happens at first sight—the touch between their eyes doesn't need language. After the music competition, Anastasia and Alexei go for coffee together. They have a strange similarity, a unity of feelings that develops even though they speak different languages. Over the next month, Alexei visits Ukraine several times. They fall in love—quietly, deeply, but secretly. February 2022. Russia invades Ukraine. Suddenly, fire falls from the sky. Bombs, missiles, and military operations change people's lives. In Kiev, Anastasia spends days and nights in a bunker, where she still plays the violin to drown out the sounds of war. Alexei has already returned to his country. But their love is now "the love of an enemy country." Phones are off, internet is limited, communication is impossible. Alexei knows that he will not be able to cover the war as a journalist. He decides to return to Ukraine, this time hiding his identity. He forges a passport, crosses the Polish border and reaches Lviv. There, he joins a volunteer organization in the name of helping Ukrainian refugees. With the help of a friend, he learns that Anastasia now teaches music to children in a shelter in Kiev. He now has only one goal in mind - to see Anastasia's face once. Kiev is a destroyed city. Alexei enters the city on foot, secretly, in a civilian truck. He finds Anastasia in the rubble of Kiev. After a long time, they meet. Tears in her eyes, silence on her face.
Anastasia says— "You know, I didn't think you would come. You are from my enemy country, but in my heart you can never be an enemy."
Alexei replies— "War is for the state, love is for the people. I don't want war, I want you." But on the night of their reunion, a Russian drone attack occurs. The shelter collapses. Alexei is injured, trapped in the rubble. Anastasia screams for help. Ukrainian soldiers arrive. Seeing a Russian, they want to capture him. But Anastasia stops them.
She shouts— "He is my lover. He didn't come to fight, he came to love."
An old Ukrainian doctor steps forward and says— "If your statesmen had such love, there would be no war." Alexei is taken prisoner, but is treated. She remains a prisoner of war in Ukraine until the war ends. Anastasia writes her letters every day, but never gets a chance to send them. The war drags on. Two years pass. In 2024, during a ceasefire, a prisoner exchange is held through the Red Cross. Alexei is freed. He returns to Moscow, but the city is dead to him. On the other hand, Anastasia now runs a music school for war-torn children.
Every day, she plays the same violin piece—which Alexei once gave her as a gift. One spring in 2025, the Spring Festival begins again in Lviv. The city comes back to life. Anastasia goes on stage to perform a musical performance. At that moment, she sees a familiar pair of eyes in the audience—Alexei. No one says anything. Only eyes meet. The violin plays, the war stops. The final words War cannot stop love. The depth of feelings between people cannot be stopped by bombs or borders.
Love overcomes all obstacles and one day it will come back.
