"How long has it been since we walked in the day? There was dew on the young grass blades back then, before everything on Earth became brittle and hard. It was like the coat of a rabbit."

"Why don't we walk with mankind anymore?"

I'll tell you. It's a sad tale.

"Recognize what is in your sight, and that which is hidden from you will become plain to you. For there is nothing hidden which will not become manifest."

In the beginning, there were the Three: Light, Wind, and Sky.

Light flew through the Abyss and saw that the darkness there was sad. There was no consciousness to make it no longer lonely. The Wind blew upon the murky chaos which we call the sea, although this is a poor translation.

Rather, a better description is the most terrifying of terrors.

The Light spoke to the Wind and said, "Should we sow this field, my sibling?"

The Wind lowered itself closer to the Abyss. The swirls and churns drew the curious spirit closer, but not so close that it touched the surface. "We should strike the churning waves with our touch and see what arises," answered the Wind.

"Nay," responded the Light in terror. "Do not gaze into the Abyss. We must bury it."

"If we bury it, won't it spring up and grow even larger than it is right now?" Asked the Wind.

Even though the Light did not know the true answer to the question, it quickly stated, "Of course not! That which is buried never arises again."

"Are you sure?" the Wind asked, becoming ever and ever closer to the surface. "How do we know it will not rise again after it is buried? What if the things we bury become greater, bigger, and perhaps better or worse?"

"We do not need to know," the Light stated firmly. "Trust me. I know."

The Light willed a massive stretch of rich Earth to spread out over the Abyss, hiding it from view. Then, it used its heat to warm the Earth, but there was no water or seed to grow there. So, the Light began to cry, and the Wind felt sorry for it.

So, picking itself up into the Heavens, the Winds began to create a great and loud tumult in the skies. Suddenly, the skies began to glow in a rainbow display of colors, many of which you've never before seen in all your life, until the colors fell down to the warm earth as individual droplets of color.

Down they fell. One droplet blue, which formed the loving waters we know today, which are unlike the vile sea of chaos stored deep beneath the earth. No. These oceans were pristine, shimmering with life giving bounty, and roaring in the most miraculous way.

The grey droplets fell into the sea and created all manner of marine life. The rich, warm earth caught the green, yellow, orange, and vibrant colors as they fell down upon her surface and carried them. From her womb sprang all the trees, grasses, mountains, animals, and other land dwelling creatures.

The Wind laughed with mirth when it saw the different creatures frolicking together in the Light's heat. The laugh spread over the creatures, all the plants and animals, and they knew that their makers loved them.

This is why animals and plants never question the loving embrace of the cosmos. They know it, and they trust it.

"How lovely," spoke the Sky. "These things which you have brought forth are stunning in all and every way. I shall bless this thing which you have made, spreading my mantle over them to keep them safe."

So things continued on this small plain for thousands, if not millions of years. No one really knows for sure how long. But one day, one of the creations, a snake, went to the Wind and Light to ask them a favor.

"Will none come to tend us?" the serpent asked. "Will none come to give us guidance as we seek out the truth?"

"What truth?" asked the Light. "This plain was made for our pleasure."

"No," said the snake in shock. "You mean, we only exist to amuse you?"

"Is that not the greatest gift of all?" asked the Light. The Wind did not speak, but it could tell the serpent was bothered by this revelation.

"We are not mere playthings, are we?" the snake insisted.

"Not play things," the Light stated. "But the Divine Knowledge and Everlasting is not for you or any life you to know. All you must know is down below."

"Is not the Up like the Down and the Above like the Below?" the Wind asked its sibling. "Why not craft a creature in our own image, and imbue them with this knowledge? They shall be like us, knowing all things and never tasting of death."

"Why not us?" asked the serpent with a hiss.

"Because that was the intent of your creation," interjected the Light. "We must not violate the natural order of creation. Sibling," the Light continued, turning towards the Wind, "you know that nothing below can rise to the above. It is not good that these creatures should know of the above as we do. We have no idea what sort of chaotic spiral we may create with such a creature."

"But we also do not know what sort of majesty we may create with such a creature!" the Wind answered, their smile lighting up the darkness. The Snake, hissing, listened closely to their discussion and something heavy began to form in its belly.

"It should be I," mused the Snake silently, its skin growing hot as it writhed. "I was first after all, doesn't this mean anything?"

But as it watched these two youthful energies bickering, it realized that it would never be chosen to be the special creation. However, the Snake could destroy all their hopes and dreams simply by destroying their creation.

"May I interject?" the Snake asked humbly, and their two divine beings turned to the slippery creature, confused. But they did not object, so the Snake continued. "I believe this special creation should exist! And I believe you should imbue it with yearning."

"Yearning?" the Light asked quizzically, suspicion written across their brightness.

"Ah, very good!" the Wind responded, ever trusting and never suspicious. "Yearning will inspire our creature to seek the Heavens continually! Surely, someday, they may even join us."

"No, no creature may enter the Heavens," the Light rebuked the Wind.

"Not true," the Wind spat back. "There is no such rule."

"There should be," the Light stated firmly.

"What if you create the creature and craft new laws to meet the need should the need arise?" the Snake suggested, its heart beating rapidly, but its face was ever poised and cool. It knew in its cleverness that such an arrangement would put the two divine beings at odds with one another, but it was something the Light and the Wind could not see.

After bickering for a while, the Light finally relented, saying, "Fine, dear sibling. Let us create a Creation. One with yearning, so we may teach them how to strive to the Heavens, should they prove worthy."

"How will they know if and when they are worthy, though?" the Wind asked.

"We shall make a rule about that," the Light stated firmly. "Now, grab that Earth and that Rain, and come with me. We have much work to do."

**********************************************************************

Thank you for reading the first part of my story! You can probably tell it is a recreation of the story of creation, but it is not the one we trypically read in a KJV Bible. I took a lot of inspiration from the Gnostic texts, especially The Secret Teachings of John, the Pistis Sophia, and the Gospel of Judas. I highly recommend these titles if you can get your hands on them :)

‘The last shall be first and the first shall be last.’ The first then, who were created before us, are the invisibles, for indeed they arose before mankind, they and the gods and the rulers; and the men who shall receive mysteries, will be first into the kingdom of heaven.”

Much love to you!
