Logos' new friend

Light danced from crystal to crystal as a lone sunbeam made its way into the cavern, dancing from one to the next, lighting up the cavern like a crystal ball as a low deep vibration could be felt in the rocks and crystals as Logos wakes from his slumber and clambers to his feet. How long was I sleeping for this time? The old dragon thought to himself as he unfolded his wings and stretched out his mighty form and growled as a cloud of smoke escaped from his nostrils as he looked towards the opening the stream of light protruded through.

Isabella was playing near the wagon when a small mouse caught her attention, she watched the little creature as her parents loaded the wagon, and giggled with joy until it ran away, then clambering to her feet, chased after the little rodent into the forest. Magalas and his wife, Sofina, had just finished loading up the wagon from their night’s rest when they heard the roar coming from the mountain, “Quickly my love, we must get going.” Magalas said to his wife. “The caravan has already left and I do not want to find out what made that noise,” he commented as he threw the last of their things into the wagon, snapped the reins, and the oxen lurched ahead. Not realizing their daughter was not in the wagon, Magalas and his wife left, chasing the caravan as little Isabella roamed unknowingly through the forest.

Rocks flew in every direction as Logos burst through the top of the mountain and spread his wings, blocking out the sun and casting a shadow across the valley. Rocks and boulders rolled down the side of the mountain, causing a landslide burying the unexpecting caravan below, killing everyone. Logos looked down at the carnage that he caused when he saw the boulders heading toward a small child in the forest. Tucking his wings in, he dove straight towards the child, plucking her from death’s door as the landslide destroyed everything in its path below them. Circling back with the child in his talons, he returned to where the caravan was destroyed and gently set the little child down amongst the carnage and landed a short distance away, watching her as she clambered around the broken wagons when she stopped and started to cry. Logos watched helplessly, not knowing what to do. He laid his head down and listened to the soft sobbing of the little girl and closed his eyes, only to be awakened by the strange presence of the little girl wrapping her small arms around his big scaley neck and hugging him.

Magalas heard the explosion of rocks as Logos burst through the peak of the mountain and when the sun darkened out the daylight, he turned his head as the mighty dragon opened its wings and he could hear the screams from the caravan as boulders crushed their wagons. Magalas then realized that he took the wrong turn chasing after the caravan and was heading away from the mountain when Sophina screamed, “Isabella, Isabella? Where are you, sweetie? Magalas, she’s not there!” she said franticly. “You got to turn back, we must find her!” she continued when there was a loud roar. When they looked up Logos has his wings tucked close to his side and was in a steep dive towards the area they had camped for the night, then a small scream, and everything went silent as Sofina fell to her knees and tears ran from her eyes, figuring that her little girl was just slain by the beast. Kneeling down next to his wife, Magalas gently wrapped his arms around her and helped her to her feet and back into the wagon, “We must go before he comes this way,” he said as he snapped the reins and the oxen lurched ahead.

Logos watched Isabella as she played, What am I going to do with this young human? I have no idea how to care for one; he thought to himself. Logos caught her, as she tumbled over close to the edge of the lake and he picked her up as he cradled her in his talons, where she quickly fell asleep. I wonder if the elves still live in this valley, it’s been so long since I have been awake, he thought to himself and held the young child close to his chest. Then leaping into the sky, he unfolded his wings and headed south down the valley, following the dark river that flowed to the mystical waterfalls, that is where the elves should be, he hoped. Soaring over the top of the waterfalls, he could see smoke in the valley below from a hunting party that had stopped for the night and he slowly circled, descending into the valley.

A young elf and her daughter were cleaning up by the river after the day's hunt as Logos drifted on the updrafts into the valley silently, or as quiet as a dragon can be, towards a clearing not far from the two elves trying not to frighten them. Liluth watched her young daughter play with a ladybug when a large shadow drifted harmlessly by them, looking up, she couldn’t believe what she was seeing as a mighty old dragon landed not too far from them. Liluth didn’t make a sound and only watched in awe, dragons haven’t been seen in these parts for well over a hundred years, yet, there is one sitting on the ground not a couple of hundred feet away. When Logos slowly lowered his arm from his chest, Liluth couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Not only was there a dragon sitting before her, but it also has a small child in its arms. Liluth slowly reached down and pick up her daughter and she thought she saw a smile on the old dragon’s face, yes it was indeed a small grin, for when she picked up her daughter Logos did smile to see another young child and knew that little child would not be alone.

Tarron was setting up camp when he saw the large shadow glide over the forest canopy and was amazed to see a dragon. He then thought of his wife and daughter out by the river and he ran shouting at the others that there was a dragon and that Liluth and his daughter were out by the river, and not thinking about the consequences fired their arrows and came out screaming only to see Liluth running and waving.

Liluth slowly made her way towards Logos when screams and shouting came from the forest behind them, followed by a volley of about a dozen arrows. Liluth screamed as the projectiles flew towards Logos and the small child, hearing her screams Logos turned and saw the arrows flying towards him, he unfolded his mighty wing and they bounced harmlessly off. As the hunters came running out of the forest screaming, Liluth ran towards them with her arm waving, shouting at them to stop because of the child in its arms. Tarron then stopped and looked at his wife and she pointed to the dragon's chest where he saw the little child peacefully sleeping in the great beast’s arms. She then turned and walked towards the dragon as the others anxiously looked on and when the dragon shuffled his feet, they all jumped except Liluth, who was watching Logos carefully. Liluth's daughter got restless, she had trouble holding her and she escaped from her arms and ran towards the dragon. Liluth tried to grab her, but she was too far and when Logos saw her coming, he gently placed the young child on the grass in front of him as she slowly woke from her slumber to the greetings of another little girl in front of her.
