Beautasia the unicorn loved to watch the rainbows. On any damp, cool day after the rains fell, you will find her on a hilltop or the tallest mound admiring the wonderful magic of arching colors high up in the sky. She always looked around carefully to make sure that the inquisitive beings who were always searching for her were not around to disturb her sky gazing moments. She was the last unicorn in existence, Beautasia had searched high and low to try to find others like herself, but alas, she had found none so far. Still, she will never give up her search.

Lost in thought, she was at peace with this cool windy day. The poor unicorn had never heard of a telescope, for as she stood there on the flattened hilltop looking peaceful and happy, people looked into their scopes and saw the most fabulously lovely unicorn that had ever been described. Beautasia had at last been exposed to the gullibility of humanity. They had caught her on film, the film had been uploaded to the Internet and immediately became one of those miraculous social sensation event.

People thronged to the hill as Beautasia, too stunned to move or fly away up to the sky, just stood and watched the sea of people in horror and fear. They drew nearer and nearer, they all wanted to touch her, Beautasia panicked, anger starting to seep into her startled mind. Up in the sky, winged iron birds whirred and circled above her, their rotors and engines bringing with them a great cacophony of deafening sounds, driving the unicorn into a frenzied flurry of emotions.

In one great burst of strength and power, Beautasia sprang from the earthly mounded hilltop and flew, as if by magic, straight up to the double optical illusion adorning the sky.

This phenomenon caused by refraction, internal reflection and dispersion of light in water droplets, resulted in a continuous spectrum of light in the sky. The rainbow lightly shifted its form of multicoloured circular arc and reached down low, swooping and welcoming Beautasia to its bosom.

Unicorn and rainbow met in a magnificent fusion of splendor and glory, transforming the unicorn into a most spectacular array of beauty and color.

People gasped at the marvel unfolding before their eyes, phones barely able to record it so far above their purview and perception.

As her anger slowly dissipated amidst all this glorious, sublime state of her being, Beautasia looked down upon the throbbing mass of humanity below her. They gazed upon her in awe, wonderment and worshipful god-like delight. She suddenly knew what she had to do.

Communing in whispered breathlessness, unicorn and rainbow made their clever plan. Both smiled at their crafty wit and waited with great anticipation for the result.

Beautasia slowly alit, spinning in cascading sparks of blinding, soft and breathtaking shooting stars of colorful light. Each spark found a human, each human became a radiantly glowing unicorn.

Rainbow and unicorn had made an agreement.

Beautasia would have them on the days when rainbow hid herself from the world, she would never be alone and lonely again.

Rainbow would use them at the end of her earthly arc, to create many more colors for the rest of the human world to enjoy on the days when rainbow shone in the sky.

The unicorns who were once humans, now hid far away from the throngs of their kind who now sought them relentlessly all over the world. Sadly, too late, they have realized how the loss of their peace and privacy really feels.

N.B. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the Sun. Rainbows can be caused by many forms of airborne water. These include not only rain, but also mist, spray, and airborne dew.
