Together Tantalizing
She was a Jetbird, ready to take flight
They shared a table dressed with a pristine white cloth which draped gracefully over the edges, flowing ripples of silky material hovering just above the occupant’s knees. Everything was perfectly crafted in the establishment. The restaurant was dimly lit and thrumming with the gentle murmur of conversation from the surrounding tables, soft clinking sounds of silverware which nestled easily in the hand against the fragile ivory plates which nurtured the delicacies on offer. With food so well-crafted and perfectly balanced in flavor, salt and pepper didn’t need to adorn the tables tonight.
The moment he joined the table it was clear that he was on the rarer side of creatures. While only small in size his presence was substantial nonetheless, commanding attention even among his impressive company. He was only from the finest, superlative breeding, lightly browned and glistening with a thin layer of sweat under the soft table lamps. He was respectable, the generous kind and in his prime, taking the stand a world above the tough specimens that would be found in other restaurants that could offer only an assault on the senses. No, he was different. He was expensive and he was worth it. Stella couldn’t hold back her excited smile when he arrived.
Beside him she sat tantalizingly still in her deep red color. She was from the North Coast of California and she was bold and ready to please a crowd. Despite her youthfulness she was complex. While he was grounded and steady she was a Jetbird ready to take flight. She was the perfect thing to take him with her on the journey.
When he graced the date with his arrival he made such as impression he could turn anyone into a drooling fool. It was as if he wore God’s overwhelming musk, piquant, a sharp salty maple smell perfuming the air. It was a primal thing, sparking a carnivorous desire in Stella while on only the first date! He owned the table with a smoky air to him, peaked by complex spices and sweetness.
While he was earthy, mellowed and wholesome, she was out of this world. The Jetbird was already in another world of her own but still managed to dance with him playfully while up in the clouds. She smelled homely, in a way, toasty and warm like caramel, vanilla and cloves but then following that, whenever she moved bursts of dark berry perfumes filled the air, sweet scents of blueberries and blackberries. For but a brief moment she almost seemed like a traditional, old-world type but this was not exactly the case; she carried a new world modernity with her. She was curiously intoxicating. She was seductive.
Moments of breathtaking anticipation passed before they finally combined in a passionate embrace. He was deliciously sublime and juicy, she was velvety and warm. He was salty and spicy on the tongue while she tasted like blueberries and cherries, with hints of earthy leather and dark chocolate, and she only become more appealing with every breath. They were perfectly paired to one another. Together, they were a romance to be rivaled in the greatest works of Victorian literature.
Stella tried to hold back her primal sounds of enjoyment and gluttony as she finally got to eat her Japanese Pure Breed Wagyu Steak, between her sips of her glass of Jetbird 2017 Merlot. Stella initially had doubts behind getting the house Merlot but the waiter insisted it would be a delicious surprise, and they were right. Stella was almost melting in her seat as she savored every bite, relishing the soft spiced meat and the way the flavor was complimented by her Jetbird wine with notes of blueberries, cherries and chocolate – she was a beauty all right. Stella was in heaven. Stella’s date, Justin, didn’t hold her attention as much as the food and drink did tonight but this would still go down as one of the best first dates Stella will ever go on. The steak was superb, the best Stella had ever had the pleasure of – he was so tender and flavorsome – and the Merlot was so unexpectedly delightful – she was definitely a people-pleaser.
Be it slightly rude, Stella pulled out her phone while Justin droned on about his paper sales business and searched Jetbird wines, bursting with excitement to discover it was part of a wine bundle by Bright Cellars, which Stella had heard of from a friend before! It took all of Stella’s effort not to arrange a subscription on the spot, but the woman tucked her phone away and turned her attention back to her meal, committing every last look, scent and taste to memory as the best first date she will ever have the pleasure of.

This piece was challenging to write. I eat a steak twice a year, and I don't drink wine, so describing a steak and wine in depth as the focus of the story was interesting!
