TimelessTime

a short story about what happens when you mess with time

By Luvert jr HoltPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

In the year 2199, time travel had become a common practice. The Time Travel Agency was responsible for sending people back in time to observe and document historical events. But there were also those who sought to change the course of history. One such person was John, a time traveler with a mission to alter a key event in history.

John was determined to prevent the assassination of President Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963. He had studied the event extensively and believed that if he could prevent the assassination, the course of history would be changed for the better. He knew it was a risky move, but he was willing to take the risk.

John arrived in Dallas on the morning of November 22, 1963. He immediately went to Dealey Plaza, the site of the assassination, and began to observe the area. He was surprised by the level of security that was present. There were police officers and Secret Service agents everywhere. It was going to be difficult to get close to the President.

John spent the next few hours watching the crowds gather and waiting for the motorcade to arrive. When it finally did, he saw President Kennedy and the First Lady waving to the crowds from their open-top limousine. John's heart was pounding with excitement and nerves.

As the motorcade passed by, John saw Lee Harvey Oswald, the man who would later be accused of the assassination, standing on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository. John knew he had to act fast. He sprinted towards the building and made his way up to the sixth floor.

When he got there, he saw Oswald with a rifle, ready to fire. John lunged at Oswald, causing him to miss his shot. A struggle ensued, and in the chaos, the rifle went off. John was hit and fell to the ground.

As John lay there, bleeding, he realized that he had failed in his mission. He had prevented the assassination, but he had also caused chaos and confusion. The course of history would be altered, but not in the way he had intended.

John's body was found by the police, and his time-traveling device was confiscated. The authorities were baffled by what they found. They had never seen anything like it before. John's identity and purpose remained a mystery.

The assassination attempt made headlines around the world. Conspiracy theories emerged, and people debated what had really happened that day. But for John, it was too late. He had failed in his mission, and now he was trapped in the past, unable to return to his own time.

As he lay dying, John had a moment of clarity. He realized that altering history was not the answer. He had been foolish to think that he could change the course of events without consequences. He had learned a valuable lesson, but it was a lesson that had cost him his life.

John's body was buried in an unmarked grave in Dallas, and his time-traveling device was locked away in a secure facility. The world moved on, and the events of November 22, 1963, remained a defining moment in history. But for those who knew the truth, John's sacrifice was not forgotten.

As time passed, people forgot about John and his failed attempt to alter history. The world went on, and the events of November 22, 1963, continued to shape the course of history. But for those who knew the truth, John's sacrifice was not in vain.

The Time Travel Agency used John's failed mission as a cautionary tale. They made it clear to their time travelers that altering history was not an option. The consequences were too great, and the risks were too high.

As for John, his legacy lived on. His story became a legend among the time travelers. They spoke of his bravery and his determination to change the world. They admired his courage, even in the face of certain death.

Over the years, many time travelers attempted to follow in John's footsteps. They sought to change history and make the world a better place. But they always failed. They could never quite achieve what John had set out to do.

In the end, John's sacrifice became a symbol of the importance of respecting the past. He had shown that history was not something to be trifled with, and that the consequences of altering it could be disastrous. His legacy lived on, a reminder to all those who traveled through time that they had a responsibility to preserve the past, not change it.

And so, John's failed attempt to alter history became a cautionary tale for future generations. It was a reminder that the past was a delicate thing, and that the best way to shape the future was to learn from the lessons of the past.
