I was sound asleep when a small noise from my window woke me. tap, tap, tick, tick. What on earth was that annoying noise? Was it raining? It was too inconsistent to be rain. I huddled closer to the wall, not knowing what that noise was, maybe it was just a bird. yes, tell yourself it is just a bird. Woodpecker maybe. When suddenly my window rattled, I carefully peered from underneath my covers. Oh, it was just Sam standing on the roof of the house. What the hell, how did he get up here? I walk over and open it up.

"Come on Jenkins, let's go!" said my best friend of twelve years.

"Where, it's the middle of the night?" I asked him and suddenly i was self-conscious that I wasn't wearing a bra.

"Down to the pier for the fire pit party, my brother is in the car waiting," he said as he climbed through the window. I stepped back.

"What wrong with you?" he asked.

"Let me change, sheesh!" I hissed at him, and he held up his hand in self-defense.

"You'll come?" his eyes light up with excitement.

"Sure." he popped back out of the window and started scampering down the tree he just climbed up. This was insane, I had never snuck out of the house before, sure I've done the drinking thing where I cam home wasted, btu that was one time. I could feel my heart pounding. I was doing this. I was sneaking out. I changed into my black torn jeans, a cute sparkling tee shirt and my favorite leather jacket. I steadily got out of the window found my footing and started down the tree.

"You're taking forever Jenkins," teased Sean. "I'll catch you," he said holding out his arms and bending his knees slightly. "It'll be morning by the time you get here," he said as I carefully took another step down.

"Ugh, fine," I said, and I let myself fall and sure enough he caught me easily. I hadn't ever noticed that he was well-muscled. I knew we went to the gym together but to be this fit, why hadn't I noticed his muscles before.

"You can let go now," he said.

"Oh right," I let go of his arm and ran for his brother red truck. we both climbed into the back of the truck.

"Hey Amara!" his brother Duncan said as he pulled out of my parents' driveway.

We got onto the highway and the night was warm, I opened the window and stuck my head out. We finally got tot eh fire pit. There were a few people from the homeschooling crowd, but mostly everyone was from the high school down the road. We parked the car and got out. Duncan noticed his friends and ran over to them.

"What do you think Amara? Beer or fire?" asked Sean.

"I think a drink for this occasion," I said with a laugh, we both walked over to the keg and Sean poured me a drink. I took a sip; it was light and tasted like summer. Sean did the same and we Cheers'd each other and took another drink.

"Anyone worth talking to that you see?" i asked Sean this is what we did, we were each other's wingmen.

"Not tonight," he said, and I looked at him.

"Come on, Laura is pretty cute," I said gesturing towards her.

"True, I think I will go," he made up his mind and started towards her. Just then someone tapped me on the back it was Jeremy, he was cute enough, but I watched as Sean was talking with Laura and making her laugh.

"Hey Amara, are you doing alright?" asked Jeremy.

"What oh yeah, Hi. It's good to see you," I said, now transferring my focus on Jeremy.

"Let's sit by the fire," he suggested, and we both sat down on the log. I then watched as Sean removed his jacket and put it on Laura's shoulders, she snuggled it closer to her, why did this bother me? Also, since when was Sean so ripped, I could see his shoulder muscles from where I was sitting.

"-What do you think?" my mind was focused on something else. Oh no what were we talking about...

"Umm...sure," I said, and Jeremy stood up and took my hand...wait what were we doing? before I knew it were two stepping oh good, we were just dancing.

"You seem distracted, is everything alright?" asked Jeremy. I nodded absent mindedly. We danced a few more songs.

"Hey that was fun, let me grab you a drink," he said and went over to the keg. Sean noticed me and gave me a wave, I waved back to him. Sean seemed to be hitting it off with Laura. I focused on Jeremy he was a nice smile and curly hair, yeah, he was nice. He got back and we drank the beers.

"I think Id like to go out with you," I blurted out.

"Oh... no that's not a good idea I mean Sean would be so mad, the guy is in love with you-"

"I am sorry what?!" i asked him to repeat.

"Yeah, Sean has been in love with you for years, why do you think he keeps going from girl to girl, because he wants to be with you," said Jeremy practically laughing.

"Gimme a minute," I said and I finished the beer and found Duncan.

"Duncan, we need to talk," I said. He stood up from the sand and brushed himself off.

"Is Sean in love with me?" if anyone would know it would be his brother.

"Yeah, since you met," he said. I couldn't believe it, I walked further down the beach. This was Sean, sweet Sean and he was in love with me all this time. I plunked myself down on the sand watched the waves. I heard footsteps behind me I looked up and there was Sean with his feet in the sand and his jeans rolled up.

How come I never saw his before, he was so attractive, why tonight though? Was it the spontaneous feeling that brought it on? or did I always feel this way I was just too afraid to go to the other side?

"You like me?" I asked him. He seemed shocked but then nodded. He sat down next me.

"Yeah, in second grade you were wearing this pink plaid dress-" he started but all of the sudden I found myself leaning closer towards hi, he smelled of oak and pine and firewood smoke. He stopped talking and kissed me for a good minute.

"I like you too," I said finally, and he smiled the dumbest grin I had ever seen.
