Three dolls

1. Three dolls

Maharaja Chandraguptas court was in session. All the members of the court were seated in their respective seats. Chief Minister Chanakya was conducting the proceedings of the court.

Maharaja Chandragupta was very fond of toys. He wanted a new toy every day. Even today, when the Maharaja asked what was new, he came to know that a merchant had come and had brought some new toys. The merchant claimed that the Maharaja or anyone else had never seen such toys till date and would never see them. On hearing this, the Maharaja ordered to call the merchant. The merchant came and after greeting, took out three dolls from his box and placed them in front of the Maharaja and said that O Annadaataa, these three dolls are very special in themselves. They may look similar but in reality they are very unique. The value of the first doll is one lakh Mohurs, the value of the second is one thousand Mohurs and the value of the third doll is only one Mohur.

The emperor looked at all the three dolls very carefully. There was no difference in appearance, then why so much difference in price This question troubled Chandragupta a lot. Defeated, he gave the dolls to the members of the assembly and asked them to tell him what was the difference between them. The members of the assembly looked at the three dolls from all sides, but no one could find the answer to solve this puzzle. When Chandragupta saw that everyone was silent, he asked the same question to his Guru and Chief Minister Chanakya.

Chanakya looked at the dolls very carefully and ordered the gatekeeper to bring three straws. When the straws came, Chanakya put the straw in the ear of the first doll. Everyone saw that the straw went straight into the stomach, after a while the lips of the doll moved and then closed. Now Chanakya put the next straw in the ear of the second doll. This time everyone saw that the straw came out from the other ear and the doll remained as it was. Seeing this, everyones curiosity was increasing to know what would happen next. Now Chanakya put the straw in the ear of the third doll. Everyone saw that the straw had come out of the dolls mouth and the dolls mouth opened immediately. The doll was constantly moving as if it wanted to say something.

When Chandragupta asked what all this was and why the value of these dolls was different, Chanakya replied.

King, people of good character always keep the things they hear to themselves and open their mouth only after confirming them. This is their greatness. We get this knowledge from the first doll and this is the reason why the value of this doll is one lakh Mohurs.

Some people are always engrossed in themselves. They ignore everything. They do not wish to be praised. Such people never harm anyone. We get this knowledge from the second doll and this is the reason why the value of this doll is one thousand Mohurs.

Some people are softhearted and lighthearted. They create a ruckus in the whole world as soon as they hear something. They have no knowledge of truth or lie, they just want to open their mouth. This is the reason why the value of this doll is only one seal.

2. Ashram of lazy people

Once in a kingdom, many people became lazy. They stopped doing all the work. They even stopped cooking food for themselves and started depending on others for food. Most of the time they used to lie down or sleep.

It was necessary to solve the problem of food because people started refusing to feed these lazy people. One day all the lazy people demanded from the king that an ashram should be built for all the lazy people and arrangements should be made for their food.

The king was intelligent as well as noble and kind. After thinking for a while, he ordered the minister to build an ashram. When the ashram was ready, all the lazy people went there and started eating and sleeping.

One day the king came there with his minister and some soldiers and he asked a soldier to set the ashram on fire. Seeing the ashram burning, there was a stampede among the lazy people and everyone ran away from the ashram to save their lives.

Two lazy people were still sleeping in the burning ashram. One of them felt hot on his back and said to the other lazy person lying nearby, I am feeling hot on my back, please see what is the matter

You lie down on the other side, the other lazy person replied without opening his eyes.

Seeing this, the king said to his minister, Only these two are true lazy people. They should be given enough sleep and food. The rest are lazy. They should be beaten with sticks and put to work.
