There’ll be no Slaying Here

The time has come. We can no longer stand silently by. We must hold those guilty responsible. There are far too few dragons left and their numbers are dwindling daily. I must first lay blame at the feet of the minstrels, who sang of the great deeds of the Knights who did murder these innocent creatures in order to rescue yon fair maiden, who if truth be told was in no danger it all. Dragons do not harm maidens or princesses that’s simply rude, and the noble creatures simply are not so ill mannered. Second, I hold to task the lazy writers, who look to tell tales of adventure and woe and make victim dragons yet again as beast that destroy villages and terrorize kingdoms, rending castles to the earth. I personally have never seen a dragon so flagrantly destroy so much with nary a reason, its absurd. The tales of Dragon’s hoarding riches and stealing gold and jewels to rest upon in their mountain caves is far from just. Did anyone ever take a moment to consider that these poor souls are simply reclaiming the gold and stones that were so viciously stolen from them when mankind chose to mine their homes? I dare say not. We really should all be ashamed that anything has to be said at all, the very thought that anyone should wish harm on such noble creatures should have been long ago banished.

Dragons are kind and gentle creatures, who simply long for peace and to help mankind when in needed and we repay them by sending soldiers to murder them, forcing them to carry riders on their backs as beast of burden, and ruining their good name with such wild and dishonest tales.

Enough is enough, we must all take a stand before it’s too late, no egg is too small, no lizard to mean, it matters I tell you! We must write better stories that tell a better picture. We must stop vilifying these great paragons. Mankind has forced them to hide away, fearing for their lives, secluded from the things and company they might care to enjoy. This injustice is just untenable! There can be no defense.

Dragons are wise and have much to impart on a listening soul, which happens to be why so many princesses and maidens can be found in their company of dragons. They were not taken, never let it be said so. They went on their own to learn and grow, but do we ask the dragon or the lady? Why no we cannot consider the pair to be voices of reason our minds are made up and not to be changed by silly things such as facts.

Did anyone stop to consider that a dragon on a rampage was simply acting in self defense of her children and home? Did anyone consider that perhaps the villages burned down had struck not just the first blow, but many cruel attacks before a dragon decided to defend himself. We are judging these creatures without due process, and it is not right I say!

I for one will no longer stand by, I simply cannot. All dragons that I tell of shall from this day forward be only shown in the best possible light and let only their true nature be highlighted hence forth. Who cares if their favorite dish has become the canned fellow that comes carelessly wandering into their den, the fault is their own and not the dragons.

I humbly beg those among you with concerned and gentle hearts to use the power of your pen to make right this great evil, heal the wounds that carelessness has wrought.

Let’s the end needless violence against dragons. Lets stand together.
