The Wonders of Dantea
A Rare Animal That Can Talk

The Laughter was so cheerful and infectious, but it became a giggle when everyone realized Amanda was quiet.
"What's the matter, darling?" Amanda's mum inquired.
"Nothing mum."
"That's a lie, and you know that."
"Can I ask for a favor?"
"Anything darling."
"Can I at least get a pet?"
"Darling you kno—"
"No mum, don't say no. I'll really love to have it."
"I'll speak to your dad about it."
"Thanks mummy."
Hesitatingly, Amanda got up from the couch and got into her room.
It was a sunny day, and Amanda got herself ready for school.
At the school, there was a great crowd. Amanda had to pull through the public to see what had happened. It was a little dog who lay helplessly on the ground, no one touched it, but Amanda went ahead to pick it up even with the rebuke from the crowd.
"Amanda what are you doing?"
"Mummy, the little dog needs help. You taught me to be kind to people, Can't we be kind to animals too?"
"Alright advocate Amanda, let's get your little friend to a veterinary doctor."
All through the long ride, the dog kept jerking. They got to the veterinary doctor, and treatment commenced immediately.
"You're lucky you brought her early."
"Really, it's a she?"
"Yes, you could have lost her. She's a special breed."
"Special breed? How do you mean?"
"Yeah, she's special and different, she can speak as though she's a human."
"What? Mum! Did you hear that?"
"So we could talk to her and get response, right?"
"Yes ma'am."
After everything, the doctor prescribed some drugs for the dog.
"Mum, can I keep her?"
"Amanda, we can't keep her."
"Please!"
"Please!" The dog responded, too; it amazed everyone though the doctor had told them the dog could speak.
"But little Angel, we can't keep you, how about your mum."
"I have no family; please keep me." It was the tone of the dog that made Mrs. Christine reconsider.
They got home, and Mrs. Christine headed to the kitchen while Amanda bonded with her new pet.
"Hi! I'm Amanda, and you are?"
"I don't have a name?" The dog responded sadly.
I could give you a name.
"That would be nice."
"So how about 'John'?"
"No."
"How about Dantea?"
"Yes." She replied and wiggled her tail.
"Dantea it is. Do you want to have a bath?"
"Yes, Sure"
The bond between the dog and Amanda agrees that they can't be separated.
Months later, some people claimed to have been Dantea's actual owners. They had proof that Dantea was theirs because they made the crossbreeding possible. Dantea had denied knowing them, But these individuals were adamant.
The rain poured as it squirted from an opening, Dantea kept whining, and Amanda had to see her.
"Dantea! What's the problem?"
"I feel so alone."
"But you're not alone, we're here for you. And you know the reason why you're here is because we have to keep you safe."
"But I can still be with you and be safe, I don't feel safe here." She kept whining.
"I'm sorry, I left you all alone; come here." She gestured her hand for a hug. They hugged for a while and then fell asleep together. Mrs. Christine had come to tell Amanda that her father would return the next day but couldn't find her in her room or the living room. She was sure she could see her in the kitchen, probably trying to steal some cookies, but she wasn't there. She was worried, then remembered Dantea's room, so she decided to check there. Christine didn't know when a tear dropped; she was so emotional at seeing what she saw.
After breakfast, there was a knock on the door; a young man was smartly dressed in a Black suit and holding a briefcase; he handed a brown envelope to Mrs. Christine. Everyone was curious to see what was in the brown envelope; they all sat on the red carpet to view the letter's content and found out the court had summoned them!
"But why keep a dog that isn't yours? Bernard asked.
"Dad, Dantea isn't just any dog. She's my friend."
"Besides, she claims not to know them."
"How would you know she's saying th—"
"What I speak of is the truth, I don't know them. I had no family before I met Amanda." Dantea intruded.
"Well, little one. We have to let you go to avoid troubles."
"But I'm no trouble." Dantea whined.
"Dantea, you're not going with them, you'll stay with us, soon we'll play and go to the grocery shop together."
"That's so sweet." Bernard was amazed, and he thought it was okay to keep her.
The cold breeze sent cold down Amanda's spine the day they were to appear in court. She hoped it wouldn't be the last time she'd see Dantea.
Christine and Amanda had tried to convince the court that they were the real owners, but it proved abortive; Lincoln seemed to have all the proof.
News came into the judge as the court was about to rule in his favor. From all indications, Mr. Lincoln had a research laboratory where he harbored animals, used them for tests and practicals, and sold their parts. The court ruled in favor of Amanda. Everyone rejoiced; different media had come to interview them, and after everything, the family rested.
"Mum!" Amanda screamed, and it scared her parents, so they ran downstairs.
"Dantea is down with an illness."
"What?"
She was rushed to the veterinary doctor for a quick checkup, and the results were unbelievable. She was with a child!
