“Tamsin Johnstone, reporting live outside Crowe Manor, where James Jnr is expected to make an announcement. Wait… who is that?” the reporter said as a man in a white mask emerged from the mansion.

“It was instilled in me by my father (God rest his soul) that change would only come if people took a stand. People like me. Growing up, comics fascinated me. I didn’t care for progressive ideologies, but I was inspired by individuals using powers to change their world. Isn’t that what we all want? A better world?

Superpowers don’t exist in reality – they’re not born from radioactive spider bites or alien origins. Real power is purchased, the kind you get from working hard and spending harder.

The world my father knew doesn’t exist anymore. It’s a mere shadow, overrun with war, famine, drugs, and crime. There’s been a breakdown in the very standards this country was forged on.

I’ve tried to be reasonable… tolerant, but they took advantage. One of them broke into our house and savagely beat my mother for her jewellery. Her wounds are my reminder. Remorse? I don’t feel that anymore. It was ripped away from me. My bright world of white light and hope vanished when the darkness spread.

So, it’s time for change, for action. We’ve been too tolerant for too long, and we’ve suffered for it. When they were slaves… they knew their place. Now they exploit our kindness. Things were under control back then. There will be those who disagree, who’ll call me a monster. But I am what this country… this world needs.

Consider me the White Knight of the Right.”

“Well, Steve… Mr. Crowe has spoken. The crowd outside Crowe Manor is uneasy. It feels like there’s a storm brewing.”

Such a great title! I checked out your image below. I didn’t get the mask thing.. maybe you are referencing something I don’t know of.. Weird it didn’t load.

Congratulations on both Top story and Honorable mention. Read this twice, the impact is very real.

Man, and I thought Free Market Man was going to anger people. Shocked this didn’t kick off a war in the comments, but Vocal doesn’t seem very popular with the MAGA heads. Fortunately, I can always turn to my brother’s Montanan in-laws on Facebook for the other side’s perspective

Look at you!!! Top story and Honourable mention all in one breath!!! Too bad you're not getting the recognition you deserve! 😜 (sarcasm)

Good over evil always good stories in my eyes. This could be a real news story for one of those old television news programs.

Oh, I loved this! The "White Knight of the Right" concept was so clever-- really enjoyed this fresh perspective :) Awesome work, my friend!

The beginning reminded me of that scene in Ironman where Tony Stark tells everyone he's iron man! This was very clever and a great twist on what really makes a hero/ villain... it's all in perspective!! Nicely done, Paul!!

To coin a gen alpha idiom (is it an idiom?) this is giving Elon Musk for me.

  • Oh!!! That kinda white mask!! I thought it was a superhero kinda white mask. I'm so glad I saw your photo below. Loved your story Sir Paul! 🍩🥐

There's a storm brewing everywhere it seems. Great story and unique take on the challenge, Paul!

Yes, trouble's brewing. There are, unfortunately, far too many true life similarities in this bit of fiction - we really have those (one in particular) who are narcissistically power driven. Despite this, I really enjoyed your story - it was so well written!

Author's Notes: Sadly...this feels a little too real. Which is kinda the point. What if someone wanted to use power to make changes that were not especially good? I mean...yeah. I did have an AI generated image for the lead one, but it wouldn't save and publish with it. Can't even add it afterwards. Nothing wrong with the image, but some sorta publishing issue. Obviously, these views are not my own in this story and more a take on things.

brilliant as always, I detect a note of satire here.
