Over the stone wall they scrambled as they heard distant alarms. The pursuer‘s flashlights could be seen sweeping toward the moonlit cemetery, but there was still time to complete the job.

The heist would’ve gone without a hitch for the two sisters, but someone must’ve alerted museum security after seeing suspicious figures exiting a window.

Scouting the cemetery near the museum days before gave the sisters their escape plan. Under starlit sky they knew exactly where to go. Past headstones and mausoleums, they stopped at the Weeping Angel statue that marked the gravesite of Molly McGregor.

Hastily, Maxine pulled the Crown Royal bag from her sweatshirt while Terry knelt down and deftly twisted open the brass lid of the sunken flower holder next to the grave marker. It swung to the side revealing the underground compartment. The sisters looked at each other, nodded, and dropped the purple bag that held the purloined moon rock down into the cavity. Securing the lid closed, off they ran.

If caught by police, the moon rock wouldn’t be found on the sisters, and when the theft died down, they would come back to collect the treasure.

The sisters would return to the Weeping Angel.
