I woke to the shining of the sun coming into the manor, my body still ached terribly. "Nyx, it's time you got up and got to work, you know how Master Lukas is." Ariel sneered. In reality she hated me entirely and took every chance to get me in trouble. I guess she thought Lukas might raise her station by marrying her to one of his sons, my brothers. You see unlike my brothers and sister I'm treated like another housemaid. The lowest of the low in my families eyes even though I have the same noble blood as they. It's quiet heartbreaking or at least it was when I was a young child. I got out of bed and put on the shabby cloths I was given to work with. I sighed and hurried to my chores. I entered the manor kitchen to grab my "father's" breakfast.

"Hey darling, here's your tray" Yareha beamed. She was a kind elder woman who treated me just like she did her grandchildren.

"Thanks Yare!" I giggled as I shoved a pastry into my mouth before I headed up to my father's study. She laughed out a welcome and told me to hurry before Master Sparrow loses his shit. He was ill tempered most mornings, especially with the ongoing conflict between our kingdom, Enoch and Cerbat Kingdom. The banners were refusing to send more men to the front lines. It was honestly a whole mess that wasn't getting better with time.

I knocked on my father's door and waited for him to bid me to come in. He finally answered with his gruff voice, I entered and curtsied.

"Good Morning Master Sparrow." I said respectfully. I knew better than to call him father to his face. He would whip me, the scars on my back were proof of his cruel acts.

"Ah about time," He stated "Nyx, you need to ready yourself, a dress will be delivered shortly. I can't have the Royal family aware of your current treatment. You will NOT talk to them about anything, do you understand me?" He sneered full of vemonous hate.

"Y-Yes Master Sparrow." I stuttered out.

"Good, now return to your room and ready yourself by dinner after letting Ariel she will take on your duties today. For the dinner you are allowed to address us as family when spoken too."

"Understood, Master Sparrow." I said and cursied again before rushing out the door but before I closed it. My father called out my name again.

"Don't embarrass me Nyx, The punishment for doing so will not be pleasant." He threatened, I nodded in response and hurried off to find Ariel , she was going to be pissed when I told her she would be taking over my chores on top of hers. I found her in garden flouncing about like she didn't have work to do.

"Ariel" I called out to her, pulling her out of her daydream of being a lady of the Sparrow Estate. She turned to me with hate filled eyes and screeched out "Why aren't you doing your chores trash." Oh she was very mad I ruined her daydreaming. "I've been relieved today and Master Sparrow told me that you will be filling my roles and chores today." I stated bluntly. I could have sworn I could see her ears pushing out smoke.

"WHAT!" she shouted "Why would Master Sparrow relieve you today, you are pathetic trash and nothing more." I could tell she was furious.

"That is what he told me if you don't like it be my guest and tell my father yourself." I stated glumly. Before I knew what happened he hand came rushing toward my face. I closed my eyes and winced awaiting the contact that was sure to come. I was rather confused when it didn't. I peaked one eye open, only to open both with shock.

Killan Sparrow stood before me holding Ariels arm with an unreadable face. Now, Killan, my brother was the kindest of my three siblings. Though, he was still indifferent towards me. He threw his arm from his hand like it was nothing and stood with his tall broad stature. Killan was blonde haired, deep blue eyes with sharp features.

"Do not touch her today, thus you be punished, hurry along before I give you marks that you can't erase." He said coldly. Killan's name is fitting honestly, he was merciless on the battlefield. Ariel trembled before him, unlike Theoran who adored her. Ariel was a pretty yellow blonde, with hazel eyes. I'm sure him and Theoran will fight about the last bit of his statement later. Killan turned on me with a stoic face.

"Go on little sister, we can not have you looking like a street beggar." he said with no emotion. I nodded, slightly bowed and hurried off to get ready for the dinner with the Royal family.
