The Underland twist

“Look at me, talking to the moon as if I’m completely mad. Psst … psst .. Leni are you asleep?” Maddox rolled over and sighed as he anticipated a response from his twin sister. He had troubles with getting to sleep ever since leaving Wonderland. It’s been two years.

“I can’t sleep Leni” he whispered attempting to not wake his cousin Addison. But she was awake as well.

“You’re mad, bonkers, completely off your head cousin, but I’ll tell you a secret.. all of the best people are.” Said Addison

“I can’t sleep either cousin, maybe my mother would have a moonlit tea party with us.” Addison would always speak on how much fun she had with her mother during their tea parties. Her favorite parts were where her mother would share stories of her Mad adventures in Wonderland.

“oh I love tea parties!” Leni stated while rubbing her eyes and yawning.

“Aunt Alice must have a tea party with us that will help me sleep.”

The three of them put on their slippers and marched into the room of Alice. To their surprise she was not there; but her room was not empty.

“Whooo .. are you” a voice came from the direction of the window. Addison moved closer to the voice and gasped.

“You’re name is Absolem? My father told me stories about you“ Maddox cut in between the two.

“Your father? Ahh those big eyes and uncontrollable Red Curly hair, must be an offspring of Mad Hatter“

Maddox and Addison coughed as Absolem blew smoke in their direction.

“And you with your wild blonde hair and blue eyes, whoooo are you ?”

Addison fanned the air and replied proudly

“I am Addison, my mother is Alice”

Leni stepped beside Addison and Maddox crossing their arms in unison.

“All great things come in threes . With three Wonderland will return to perfect harmony. If you wish to to fulfill your destiny follow me.”

Absolem The Blue Butterfly fluttered out the window into the labyrinth of white roses.

They ran out under the moonlight following Absolem . He lead them to a willow tree next to the river. Maddox eyes were amazed at the sight of fireflies glowing over the water. The closer they got, they noticed they weren’t fireflies but fairies!

“We have been waiting two years for your return chosen ones” a small fairy approached them.

Only you can break the curse of the Dark One. He closed all portals to Wonderland and put everyone under spell preventing them from sleeping. You must break the spell and free them!” Cried a fairy.

Sprinkling fairy dust over the chosen three; Maddox, Leni and Addison, they began to fly.

“Leni look at me ! This is amazing!” Shouted Addison flying in circles.

Maddox and Leni weren’t new to flying. Maddox was not a fan of flying, not one bit.

“I think I’m going to barf guys” said Maddox. Leni punched him in the arm “awe stop being a big baby” she teased him.

“Your heart is pure and the path is sure, that three will return and defeat the dark one.” The Fairy Queen spoke on the proficiency as she cleared branches for them to enter . “In order to defeat The Dark One you must unlock the box containing their magic. They have forgotten how special they truly are. The Dark one feeds off fear and self hate. Carrying a key around his neck to the box.” Another Fairy added

“The Gate to Wonderland reveals itself to you, now the true journey has begun.” said The Fairy Queen as she bowed wishing them good luck on their quest.

Flying into Wonderland they could see The dark ones castle. It was guarded by .. a fire breathing dragon! Something about this dragon was familiar.

“Leni look it’s Dragul my old friend!” Maddox shouted As he raced to reunite with an old friend.

“You are not welcome here Go away!” Dragul spoke without seeing who was brave enough to approach the Dark Ones castle. The thick black fog blocked his site

“Brother no !” Leni shouted

Addison’s natural instinct kicked in as she stormed off to assist Maddox.

Dragul swung his tail in defense, missing on purpose but clearing the smoke to get a better look and boy was he surprised!

A wild red headed boy with bright green eyes embraced him with open arms.

He knew that hair from anywhere.

“Maddox Hightopp is that you?”

Addison and Leni showed up shortly after.

“Oh what a glorious day it is! Maddox I have missed you dearly. “

Leni embraced Dragul with her twin brother. And the three of them cried tears of joy.

“Sorry to cut this touching moment short, but you have a mission to carry out. Now that the descendant of Alice and rightful heirs to the throne have returned to us.” Absolem calmly stated.

“Heirs to the Throne?” Leni asked with a look of confusion.

“You’re mother is the Red Queen. Shortly after having you she learned of the proficiency and sent you away to live under the care of your father, but your identities were compromised and you had to live with Alice in The Human world.” Absolem nonchalantly kept puffing his hookah. A fire sparked in Leni which spread to Maddox and Addison like a wild fire.

“Let’s end this misery and spread the magic” expressed Leni.

Dragul showed them a secret passage that ends where The Dark One lays. There he was. Sleeping while others suffer from exhaustion from nightmares. The key was around his neck, but where was the box? Dragul told them the box was a treasure chest. There was a chest at the bottom of the piranha tank. Addison was able to cut the key from the string around the dark ones neck. Handing it to Leni to open the chest while Maddox spoke to the piranhas. The chest opened, rainbows spilled from it making wonderlands color more vibrant. The dark one woke up weak, barely able to move. In disbelief he was bested by brave children. The people of wonderland fell asleep wherever they were. Finally able to sleep without nightmares. Dragul locked the dark one away under the ocean guarded by stings rays and jellyfish. Addison, Leni and Maddox were exhausted.

“Saving a kingdom is hard work but anything can be accomplished with a team!” Addison stated as she yawned. Maddox and Leni were stretching and agreeing as they all laid their head down, falling asleep together.

Absolem sat there blowing Z shaped smoke.

“Your parents will be proud to know you fulfilled the proficiency. The apple truly doesn’t fall far from the tree. Goodnight tiny ones, you truly deserve it. For you have so much more in store.” He fluttered away into the moonlight. Looking over the land ready for new beginnings. Here we grow again. To be continued..
