Her parents death had wrecked Layla. She cried herself to sleep every night; wondering why her parents would commit suicide and leave her all alone and helpless. Now she was living with her awful aunt and uncle, whom didn't care about her at all. They'd rather raise a llama than the 16 year old girl Layla was.

But this night Layla didn't cry. Not a single tear. She just sat up all night thinking of the look Kyle gave her. Of what it could mean, and who could've been responsible for her parents death. Or maybe it was just all some elaborate prank Kyle and his wicked friends were playing on her.

The next morning Layla hadn't got a wink of sleep but still she managed to put up with her aunt Delilah's nonsense, "up so early aren't you? You're just like your parents were, stupid."

"I couldn't sleep that's it, don't worry." Layla responded biting back her thoughts, well then obviously you're the stupid one too if you're up so early. But she held back her tongue, knowing it would only make things worse.

"I'm gonna go for an early jog" Layla casually said to to Delilah, hoping she wouldn't protest that it was "too cold outside" or that she would "get too skinny with all that running".

"Whatever, try not to get kidnapped… I guess" Delilah replied snakily.

Of course, Layla thought, I'm sure she'd be MUCH happier if I got kidnapped and she didn't have to worry about the little "brat" I am.
