The True Path to Divine Vision
How a Copper Smith Taught a Worshipper the Real Meaning of Meeting God

Once there was a devoted worshipper who wished to see God. In search of this sacred vision, he dedicated himself to a 40-day spiritual retreat. He fasted during the day and spent his nights in prayer and worship. Living in complete isolation, he disconnected himself from the world and its people. His time was filled with tears, whispers of prayers, and heartfelt conversations with his Lord.
On the 36th night of his retreat, something unusual happened. At exactly 4 AM, he heard a mysterious voice calling him:
“Go to the copper market, to the shop of a certain coppersmith, and you will see God there.”
With great excitement and curiosity, the worshipper left early. He made his way to the market and began searching for the coppersmith’s shop in the narrow alleys. As he walked, he noticed an old woman holding a copper pot in her hands. She seemed tired but determined, going from one shop to another, showing her pot to each coppersmith, hoping to sell it.
Each shopkeeper would weigh the pot and offer the same price:
“You’ll get 4 riyals for this.”
But the old woman replied to each one:
“I want to sell it for 6 riyals.”
None of the shopkeepers was willing to give her more than 4 riyals. They either refused or asked her to leave. Still, she didn’t give up.
Eventually, she arrived at the shop of the coppersmith mentioned in the divine message. He was busy with his work. She showed him the pot and said:
“I’ve come to sell this for 6 riyals. Will you pay that much?”
The coppersmith paused and asked kindly:
“Why do you want 6 riyals for it?”
The old woman, with a heavy heart, revealed:
“My son is very sick. The doctor has given me a prescription that costs exactly 6 riyals. I need to buy the medicine to save him.”
The coppersmith looked at the pot and said:
“Dear mother, this pot is very valuable. It is not only worth 6 riyals — it is worth much more. I will buy it for 25 riyals.”
The old woman was shocked.
“Are you making fun of me?” she asked.
He gently smiled and said:
“Not at all. I truly want to pay you 25 riyals.”
He handed her the money and kept the pot. The old woman, deeply moved and surprised, gave him many prayers and quickly left to take care of her son.
The worshipper had been watching the whole scene unfold. After the woman left, he approached the coppersmith and said:
“Uncle, it seems you don’t know much about business. Every other shop offered only 4 riyals for that pot. Why did you give her 25?”
The coppersmith looked at him and replied:
“My son, I didn’t buy a pot. I gave her the money so she could buy her son’s medicine and care for him for a week. I paid that price so that she wouldn’t have to sell anything else from her home. That was not a trade. That was my way of helping.”
The worshipper stood still, thinking deeply. Suddenly, he heard the same mysterious voice again:
“You cannot reach Me by locking yourself in isolation. The true way to see Me is through service. Hold the hands of those who are falling. Support the poor and needy. Then, We will come to visit you ourselves.”
And then came the final message, echoing in his heart:
"He is with you wherever you are."
(Quran: Surah Al-Hadid, Ayah 4)
This beautiful story reminds us that spiritual rituals are valuable, but the true path to closeness with God lies in compassion, kindness, and service to humanity. We meet God not only in silence and solitude, but also in the tears of the needy, in the smile of someone we help, and in the warmth of our acts of love.
