“What are you doing here!?”
“Are you going to let me in?”
“It's nearly midnight, Mia!”
“I'm aware, Evelyn, and it's cold outside. I'm not sure you like the idea of a guard seeing me anymore than I do so, let me in, please?”
“...Hurry up.”
“You're packing?”
“Why are you here.”
“Why are you packing?”
"That's not important right now- you shouldn't be here."
"And why is that?"
“You know why.”
“I don't think I do, mind explaining it to me?”
“My father wants you dead, Mia, don't be dull.”
“So no games tonight then, hm?”
“Mia!”
“Alright alright!..I- I came to say goodbye.”
“Goodbye?”
“And to get one last look at you.”
“W-what? Mia...what do you mean- You're leaving?”
“I have no choice, by sunrise every bounty hunter and soldier in the kingdom will be fighting for the chance at my head on a platter. I have to disappear, I'll be as good as dead to everyone I ever knew... to you...and I don't plan on letting some of my secrets die with me.”
“You're not going to die, there's still time- we can still do something- there has to be something we can-”
“There's nothing we can do, Evelyn. We're out of time.”
“So- so what? You'll waste your final moments on me... and leave?”
“I'd waste every second of my life if I could.”
“...W-what are you saying?”
“I'm saying that I look at you and I see the stars as if they were born in your eyes, I see the moon and the cosmos created in your image- the way it bends my will and pulls my tides. I'd waste every second but there is no waste in it because I look, now, knowing I'll never have the chance again to admire what I want so badly to hold in my hands, to love the way my soul craves to."
"Mia...do you- are you saying you-"
"I'm saying I love you, but you aren't mine, and you can never be mine, so please, just let me look. Let me leave imagining what it would feel like to have you look back at me the same way."
"..."
"Say something, please."
“You think I don't?”
“What?”
“You think I don't look at you the same way? That my heart doesn't ache like it's missing a piece of itself every time you've left through the window? Every time I've been left to wonder if you were going to come back? Everything feels so cold and the world loses its color without you, it's like I can't even think unless you're next to me, unless I know you're okay and... and you decide now to tell me all of this- that you love me- when I won't ever see you again? When you're leaving me?”
“I- I didn't think you felt the same.”
“I betrayed my father for you, Mia, I betray him now with every word that leaves my lips and yet it feels nothing like betrayal. It feels like the truth, like all the lies I've ever been fed have been purged from my being, like freedom. The way I feel for you has consumed all that I am and all that I'll ever be. It has from the moment I met you.”
"Why did you never say anything?"
"The same reason as you, I suppose... Ask me why I was packing."
“Why were you packing?”
"I was going to find you and...and ask you to take me with you."
“With me?”
"I'm through pretending I don't hate everything my father stands for, for sitting helpless as the kingdom I love is ruined, and I couldn't live the rest of my life wondering if you were okay when I'd rather be by your side to see for myself. Take me with you."
"...You don't know how many nights I layed awake, hating myself for even the thought of risking your safety to have you with me."
"I know the risks, and I know it'll be dangerous but it doesn't matter to me, not as long as I can be with you."
"You're sure about this?"
"As sure as my love for you."
"You'll become a criminal in their eyes, you know."
"Only until we free them from the darkness my father has shroud them in."
"Then it looks like we'd better get started."
"Together?"
"Together."
-
"Sad you had to leave all your pretty dresses behind..."
"I'll manage."
"Not sure if I will."
"Mia!"
