The Snow Angel
A Story Every Day in 2024 Feb 6th 37/366 For the Snow Micro Challenge
"It's a pattern that you make in the snow when you lie down. You move your arms and your legs like you're doing a Jumping Jack and when you get up the shape of an angel is in the snow."
Susie mused over this for a minute and then responded with, "No, it's not."
Eva sighed at her little sister. "Do you want me to show you? We do them at school all the time."
Susie shook her head. "I don't want you to. It's not a good idea."
Eva said, "Don't be silly, Susie. Here. I'll show you."
Eva got down in the snow. The branches above her were weighted with wintry heaviness, the accumulation making muscles of white on the arms of the tree.
As Eva started to move her arms and legs, she felt the sprinkling of snow on her face, an indicator that the heavily laden tree limb above her was trembling, ready to break. There was a deafening crack and she didn't have time to move as a thick branch let gravity guide it.
She closed her eyes tight. Susie screamed in terror.
She heard and felt the whump! as the branch hit, its weight pushing it to ground, through the snow.
Hitting the ground. Not her.
Eva's heart was racing. How could it have missed?
Susie ran to her.
"It was the angel!"
Eva wanted to cry. She looked around. All she could see was bright light and the sparkling glitter of icy snow.

This is great. A little tense near the end, but it worked out fine, thankfully. Also, gives me a better perspective on the sequel, which I just read.
I love the suspense combined with the happy ending. So many feels from reading this. I adore children, so already I was emotionally invested. Snow angels are nostalgic for any of us who grew up in temperate climates. The angel motif combined with a miraculous moment was so good!
Lol, I thought it was gonna hit Eva and she would die. So then Susie would say "I told you so" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Loved your story!
Sometimes we have to have a scare before we can see the light!
Perfect! <3
This scared the crap out of me! I loved the last second angelic rescue. Wonderful storytelling as per always!
Phew! I had to stop reading to brace myself for the end. Great realistic dialogue, writing flows beautifully xx
Angels made of snow & light. I love it.
Ooh, my heart raced a bit too.
