In the beginning, God created all the creatures. He created the horse, the giraffe, and the hippopotamus. He created fish, dolphins, and whales. He created everything.

After God finished creating the world, He took some time off for Himself to relax and recharge. While He was away, He left one of His angels in charge.

After a while, the angel in charge grew bored. He saw God's mixing bowl and decided to investigate it. He picked it up and thought it looked like nothing special. So he decided to play with it.

First, he put some water in it and played in the water. He splashed it. He stirred it. He even wondered if he could fit in it.

Then he added some black and white fur to the water and stirred it around. He considered adding other colors of fur, but he decided to stick with his favorite colors.

Last, he decided to add some of God’s magic dust. He thought it was just regular dirt because that’s what it looked like. The lid was stuck on the dust jar, so when it finally popped off, it went everywhere. He ended up with too much magic dust in the water. It was on the table and all over the floor.

To make matters worse, the cap flew off and hit the jar labeled methane, knocking it off into the bowl. It shattered when it hit the edge of the bowl, stirring up a huge stink. Some of it actually made it to the inside of the mixing bowl.

The angel freaked out, knowing that God would be upset with him messing with His ingredients and His special mixing bowl. So he attempted to clean up his mess. When he reached for the bowl, to dump it out, a creature crawled out of the sludge.

This creature was catlike and was black with 2 white stripes. Spying the angel, it appeared to be startled and the angel thought it was going to turn and run. But the angel was so wrong, so very wrong. The creature lifted its fluffy little tail and sprayed the angel in the face with the worst smell the angel had ever smelt. It was so bad, it made the angel’s eyes tear up.

While the angel was sputtering and trying to clear his eyes, the creature sauntered off into the woods. The angel just couldn't understand how one cute little animal could stink as bad as this little creature did.

The other angels wouldn't get near the angel sprayed by the creature. They even laughed and pointed at the angel, telling him he was skunked. The angel sprayed knew he would be in trouble when God returned, so he went and hid in a hot water pool, trying to wash the smell off of himself. The smell just lingered and lingered.

When God returned, he listened to all sides of the story. He of course punished the angel for messing with His mixing bowl. He told the angel that from then on, he was to stand watch over the springs that smelt like sulfur.

Then He went in search of the creature. Once He found the creature, he gave it the name of Skunk. In honor of the word the other angels used describing the smell of the sprayed angel.

This is how the skunk came to be and how he got his name.
