The screaming void

a sci-fi thriller

By Alex BlackmeerPublished 3 years ago 5 min read

Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. The first time Captain Alex heard the scream, he thought it was his imagination.

He was floating alone in the dark. His only company was the stars and space's cold emptiness. He told himself it was just the quiet playing tricks on his mind. But then he heard a faint but distinct sound that seemed to echo all around him again. He turned on his helmet radio, but there was only silence. He was utterly alone.

The Captain slowly floated back to his ship, his mind racing. He had never heard anything like that before. It was otherworldly, like a banshee wailing in the night. He wondered if it was some sort of space creature or perhaps a ghost. But he knew that was impossible. There was no such thing as ghosts.

He tried to tell himself that it was just his imagination, but he could not shake the feeling that something was out there. Something was watching him. He could feel it in the pit of his stomach.

He was beginning to wonder if he was losing his mind. Finally, he decided to keep the incident to himself and try to forget it. But the scream was always there, haunting him in the silence of space.

The whole day, Alex was still worried about the scream he heard in the emptiness of space outside his starship. He knew there were no other ships in the vicinity.

But the scream was so loud and full of terror that it sent a chill up his spine. He rechecked the ship's readings to see if there was anything out there that could account for the noise. But there was nothing. No energy readings, no strange particles, nothing. Just the vast emptiness of space.

He tried to rationalize it, telling himself it was just his imagination. But the more he wanted to push it out of his mind, the more it haunted him. He was on edge the rest of the day, and when night came, he found it impossible to sleep.

He tossed and turned in his bed, his mind bombarded with possibilities of what could have made that scream. Was something lurking in the darkness, waiting to attack him? Or was it something inside the ship, some kind of mechanical malfunction that was causing the noise? Either way, it was enough to keep him awake all night, his hand on his blaster, just in case.

The next day, he decided to call mission control on Earth-2.0 and tell them about the scream. Maybe they had heard it too and could help him figure out what it was. But they all stared at him like he was crazy when he brought it up.

"You must have been dreaming, captain," one of them said.

"Nothing out there could make a noise like that."

"Yeah, you're probably just exhausted from all the exploring you have been doing," another said.

Alex began to doubt himself. Maybe they were right. Perhaps he had just been dreaming. But he couldn't shake the feeling that something was out there, waiting to grab him.

He was the first astronaut to be sent on an exploring mission since humanity moved on Earth 2.0. It was his life mission. His moral and sacred duty was to explore and come back with evidence that there is something more out there.

It was 3022, and the entire human race moved to a nearby solar system on a small planet they called Earth 2.0. They all lived in small colonies under glass domes. Both scientists and astronauts were still frustrated that more than 1000 years have passed since the human species discovered space exploration, and still no sign of aliens.

But Captain Alex was determined to prove that we are not alone in the universe. So he knew he had to go further away than anyone else.

He spent the next few days combing the ship for any clues that could explain the scream. But he found nothing. No evidence of anything out of the ordinary. He could only see the same emptiness that had greeted him when he first heard the scream.

But he couldn't give up. He was convinced that something was out there, waiting to be found. And he was determined to find it.

He was getting closer to whatever had made that scream. He could feel it. And then, suddenly, he saw it. A planet unlike any they had ever seen before. It was dark and foreboding, and it called to him.

He landed the ship on the planet's surface and immediately began to explore. He was quickly met by small, dark, hostile creatures that attacked him, but he fought them off. The monsters looked like they were made of shadows but were weak and lacked the Earthlike physical form. Instead, it was like they were made of black flames. He was wounded, but he didn't care. He had to find out what was on this planet.

After long hours of walking, Alex discovered a large, strange creature in a cave. It was unlike anything he had ever seen before. He cautiously approached it, not knowing what to expect. The beast was huge, at least twice the size of him. It had blue skin and was covered in spikes. It was definitely not friendly looking.

Alex was about to turn and run when the creature suddenly spoke.

"I come in peace," it said in a deep, booming voice.

Alex was startled and fell backwards. He quickly got to his feet and drew the laser weapon, pointing it at the creature.

"Who are you?" he demanded.

"My name is K'nar," the creature said. "I am from a world called Klarx'thul. I was exploring this part of space when I discovered this small planet. When I entered, I was attacked by these dark creatures and barely made it out alive. I have been hiding here in the cave ever since, too injured to return home."

Alex lowered his weapon and sheathed it. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"So you're telling me there are other worlds out there?" he asked.

"Yes," K'nar said. "There are many worlds and many intelligent races. We have been exploring the universe for centuries."

Alex was overwhelmed. He had always dreamed of discovering new worlds but never thought it would happen.

"Can you take me to your world?" he asked.

"Yes," K'nar said. "I can take you there, but I must warn you that it is not like anything you have ever seen."

Alex was eager to see this new world, so he followed K'nar out of the cave. They climbed into his ship and took off. As they left the atmosphere, Alex could see the world he had always known was just a tiny speck in the vastness of space. He was about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

A nice story , could not wait to know what the scream is about. I also want to know what the creature K’nar looks like, it was not described in the story. Love the story concept. 💕
