The redbuck antelope moved twice
The redbuck antelope moved twice
The red gazelle, also known as the red cliff sheep, has red fur and is scarce, and is only found in the Gaoligong Mountains in Yunnan. The year before last, the provincial animal research institute and the Yuantong Mountain Zoo organized a hunting team, which searched for more than two months in Gaoligong Mountain and spent tens of thousands of yuan, and with the help of local mountain people, caught seven live red-blazed antelopes, three males, and four females, by digging traps, and transported them to Kunming, where they were kept in the Yuantong Mountain Zoo, hoping that they could reproduce under artificial feeding conditions to save this rare and endangered animal.
The first sheep pens were located on a gentle slope at the southern foot of Yuantong Mountain, with open pastures, fresh air, plenty of sunlight, easy access to water, and fine food. But they seemed to dislike this environment, and they ran around in the pen all day in fear and anxiety, eating very little and sleeping very little, especially the three male gazelles, who moved around and hit the fence with their two sharp horns. At first, the management did not pay enough attention to them, thinking that they were agitated because they were afraid of the visitors coming and going and did not like being enclosed in the fence. Similar situations have occurred with other animals that have just been brought into the zoo. Generally speaking, the animals will adapt to their new life in a month or so, and their moods will gradually calm down.
Two months later, the seven red antelopes were still so excited that they roared like demons. After three months, their eyes were bloodshot and they were running around like madmen in the sheep pens, all skinny and bony. Finally, one day, the male gazelle with the largest body frame and the longest horns blew long baa, bled out of his seven orifices, and fell to the ground. After an autopsy, he died of heart failure. The zoo management then panicked and went to Beijing to ask Professor Cai, who specializes in animal behavior at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to help guide them.
As expected of authority in this area, Professor Cai walked around Yuantong Mountain and revealed the crux of the problem. It turns out that there is a leopard cage halfway up the mountain, only thirty meters away from the sheep pen, in which two money leopards are kept. The leopard cage is located slightly above the sheep pen, without any shelter in the middle; worse still, it is a long and narrow valley, and the leopard cage is upwind, often scraping through the wind. There are no tigers in Gaoligong Mountain, and the biggest predator is the leopard, which means that the most dangerous predator of the reedbuck antelope in Gaoligong Mountain is the leopard. As soon as they look up, they can see the leopard's vigorous figure, and as soon as they breathe, they can smell the fishy smell of the leopard, which is unique to carnivorous beasts, just like a shining sword hanging high above their heads, which may chop down at any time.
This is like a person, always under the shadow of death, minute by minute under the enormous pressure of the crisis of survival, even if he lives in a garden house, wearing silk, eating mountains and seafood, he will feel peaceful and happy.
The management has opened a new home for the red-blazed antelope in a golden bamboo forest behind the Bird Museum at the northern foot of Yuantong Mountain, where the environment is elegant and separated from the southern foot of the beast concentration by a mountain, not to mention not seeing the figure of the leopard, not smelling the smell of carnivorous beasts, not even the tiger's whistle and leopard's roar. The birdsong and flowers, bamboo leaves, a verdant, even tourists rarely patronize this place, quiet as an ancient temple in the mountains.
On the second day of the move, the antelope's mood settled down, its food intake increased day by day, and its sleep returned to normal. They ate and slept, slept and ate, or just lazed around in the bamboo forest enjoying the sun's light on the ground through the bamboo leaves. After half a year, all the red gazelles had grown fat, especially the two males, whose skin was so taut and translucent due to the thick layer of fat, as if they could wring out oil with a slight twist. They are getting lazy, depressed, and indifferent to each other, except for feeding, they lie on the ground all day and doze off.
We are all waiting for the baby gazelle to be born, but a year has passed and there are still six of them, so I don't know if they are trying to be a model for family planning.
Some people think that fat is the first of all evils because it is fat, so it does not want to exercise, because it does not exercise, so it lacks vitality because it lacks vitality, so it has not increased the number of children to increase the mouth. So they reduced their food, but the effect is not much, they seem to drink cold water can grow fat; also bought "more delicate" diet tea for them to drink, the money spent a lot, and finally did not become delicate.
Another six months have passed, and the four female gazelle's stomachs still do not have much movement.
There is no choice but to invite Professor Cai from Beijing again. After two days of observation and reflection, Professor Cai proposed to move the gazelles to another home. He chose the location of the new pen, a basin-shaped depression behind some begonia trees at the western foot of Yuantong Mountain.
Strangely enough, within a few days after the second move, the antelope became active, jumping around the pen and getting close to each other. They still ate a lot, but the fat layer was thinning day by day, and their body shape soon returned to normal. The two males, in particular, had bright eyes and loud barks and were vigorous and lively. A few months later, four females gave birth one after another, and the number of red-blazed antelopes increased from six to ten at once.
Some people said that Professor Cai had read the I Ching, was proficient in the eight trigrams of yin and yang, had learned Taiji Qigong, and could read feng shui. He used the invisible eye of heaven on his brow to see that the basin-shaped depression behind the begonia tree at the western foot was a feng shui treasure spot where the dragon and phoenix veins met, and from the perspective of fate, he was bound to have many children and grandchildren. I did not believe in this strange theory, but I always felt that Professor Cai's suggestion to relocate the red antelope from the Golden Bamboo Forest behind the Aviary to the basin-shaped depression behind the begonia tree was based on his profound study of animal behavior and had a scientific basis.
A year later, I went to Beijing to attend a penning conference and visited Professor Cai to ask him about the mystery of the two moves of the red-blazed antelope. Professor Cai pondered for a while and said, "For life, you can't have too much pressure, and you can't have no pressure."
I was enlightened, and I was enlightened.
Life is both fragile and resilient. The external conditions change, the factors that are not conducive to the continuation of life gradually increase beyond the limits of life can endure, life will be distorted, it will break and collapse, and it will go to its opposite - death. It is said that life is tough because life is not fragile and flammable and explosive items, the existence of life requires certain objective conditions, but not demanding conditions, the annual rainfall of only a few millimeters in the desert there are sand fox and red willow, 4,000 meters above sea level, the snow doesn't melt all year round on the top of Gaoligong Mountain there are moss and snow lotus, the scale of life survival is very broad, with considerable flexibility and plasticity; life also has a very important Under suitable pressure, it changes its texture and density, releasing its potential energy and exerting counter-pressure on the environment.
Without any further explanation, I understood why Professor Cai moved the reedbuck antelope out of the golden bamboo forest behind the Aviary, and I understood why the reedbuck antelope came to life when it moved to the basin-shaped depression behind the begonia tree.
In the golden bamboo forest behind the aviary, the environment is so superior that you can neither hear the roar of tigers and leopards nor smell the foul smell of carnivores. Without pressure, life is inevitably relaxed, diluted, shrunken, and dulled. Individuals are not dependent on each other, and relationships will inevitably become increasingly indifferent. If you eat all day long and do not use your heart, what else can you grow but fat?
The depression-shaped basin behind the begonia tree is about a hundred meters away from the leopard cage. Although the leopard's figure cannot be seen because of the lush foliage of the begonia tree, if the wind is blowing from the south, you can vaguely smell the fishy smell of the leopard's body which is unique to carnivorous beasts. This is a suitable location, this is a suitable distance, the red-blazed antelope knows that there is a natural enemy, but not close at hand, feels the existence of the crisis, but not irresistible extinction. The pressure is just right, not beyond the limits of the antelope's life, but often weighing heavily on their hearts, forcing them to abandon their laziness, recover their diligence, strengthen their bodies, and cooperate closely to resist the crisis that may arise.
Life is a sword, the more sharpened the more shiny; life is steel, the more forged the more brilliant. A life without pressure is an empty life, or a loose life; a life without a sense of crisis is a low-quality life or will become a low-quality life. Proper pressure can ignite vitality, can activate spirituality, and can get rid of mediocrity.
In this sense, not only should we not curse stress, but if necessary, we should add some stress to ourselves to make ourselves more fulfilled and to make life better.
