Here it is getting dark and I am stuck out in the middle of a lake that I just had to be at. My wife warned me about coming here but me being me couldn’t stomach the thought of Eddie Larsons having better ghost stories than me. I have always been a ghost fanatic and when Eddie joined the local paranormal team and had the attention of everyone in town including my wife, I just knew I had to take action.
It was getting even darker when my boat engine stalled right in the middle of this lake. Legend has it that the lake was cursed or haunted or possibly both. There were so many rumors in the town about this lake and I wanted to discover them all. Boy was I an idiot.
The rumors were a girl and her baby came to this lake due to a domestic abuse situation. Desperate and alone she tried to flee by boat. She made it halfway across the lake when she ran out of gas. By daybreak, authorities found the boat by the docks with her baby in the boat still alive but she was nowhere to be found. They searched for weeks but her body was never found. They say she curses anyone who tries to cross the lake.
So, I'm here in the middle of the lake at dusk with a stalled engine. I'm a grown man so I shake off any fear that may creep up into my mind and continue to figure out a way to the docks. There was a thud in the distance as my mind was starting to have doubts, I shake that off and think that maybe it is just the ripples in the water making a boat hit the docks. The sound gets louder.
“Ok Sam shakes it off it is just rumors”. As I sit here, I start getting desperate. I start finding anything I could possibly use as a paddle to get to the shore. The wind is starting to pick up and my bones are trembling. I try again to start my engine but it was no luck.
I pull my engine up and I notice there is something tangled around the blades. I start to pull what looks like some type of fishing line but it's not its. “It's human hair”! I stumble backward losing my footing and fall off the side of the boat. As I start to panic and scramble to get back into the boat, I can feel my heart thumping like a thousand drums going at once.
I manage to get back into the boat and as I sit there struggling to scream for help, I reach down to see red paint on the sides of the boat. Wait there was no way paint could have been in or on the boat. I should have listened to my wife. This time it is not just my bones trembling it is my entire body. I grab my flashlight because the sun had just fully set and a blanket of pure darkness snuffed out any hope of light I could see.
I tried to start my engine again as I did there was a sudden gust of hot air and a scream. I honestly think my heart stopped. My body froze and wet petrified drops started falling but they weren't from the sky. They were from my eyes. Then as if all the air left my body, I felt the boat lift and something hit me like a ton of bricks.
The rumors had to be true. As I flipped the boat back over and started to get into the boat, I felt something grab my foot. I held my breath as I knew I was going under. With my body shaking my words not forming and my mind completely engulfed with fear I prepared myself for my sudden death. I closed my eyes and “Hey”!
I heard a voice not far from me. I started opening my eyes only to see two rescue boats asking me if I was ok. I look around to see the red paint gone the sun was still up and the rescue crew looking at me with a strange look. Was it all in my head?
As I got up off the floor of my boat I reached for the keys and my boat started right up. I scurried to the wheel thanked the rescue crew and with no explanation left the horrid scene. All I can say is if they say a place is cursed take a camera because whatever just happened to me could happen to you.
