She had been sitting on the couch for hours and hours since dawn and it never occurred to her that lunchtime was nearing. Being well-bodied young lady who seemed to understand everything about music and acting and cheering with friends, she poked her eyes single-pointedly on the television screen, immersed in the musical drama performed by teenagers of her own age. But then, there was this younger sibling who sparkled fire on everything he touched. How could God craft such a naughty human being who wreaked havoc on everyone? He came right beside her on the couch and poignantly demanded that he had to watch a TV-series about “Entanglement of two subatomic particles in the void of space”.
Feeling aghast and perplexed by those outlandish words, she didn’t pay attention to her younger brother, an iconic student of theoretical physics at Cambridge, and the youngest in the University. Several thoughts began to cram her mind, how could her younger brother attended college classes while she was grappling with 9th grade math assignment. Thinking of an assignment, she had not one assignment or two. She had to work on three, one for math and the rest for science courses. She wished he could help her and started daydreaming about what her teacher would say about the work done by a prodigious smart-ass who would recite weird numbers and compute math only in his head.
A loud high-pitched noise boomeranged in the house that woke her up from daydreaming about assignments. She soon realized that this little brother of hers was the one making the noise
“What are you thinking”, said he; when she came back from mental-frenzy, she realized he was talking to her. The only thing she hated about him was his obsession with a nerdy television program curated by a nerd like him. She spent many hours with her eyes gazed into the television screen and the appearance of her brother for a one-hour television program made it sound like the universe was conspiring against her in her endeavor to become an actor. She wished her brother didn’t exist, … or at least his scientific and mathematical prowess confiscated by a mysterious creature. The kind of person she needed at that instant was someone who could talk about Margot Robbie, Scarlet Johnson, Sadie Sink, Milly Bobby Brown or someone who would offer watching movies like Barbie or Love Island.
“Chloe, please, the whole day is yours, I swear to you I had many projects to work on after my favorite TV show, besides I had to disprove my professor about the new equation he taught us today about quantum probability density”, pleaded respectfully because he would know the consequences of his actions if he were to act aggressively.
“Well, after one hour, it is all yours”, she stood up, walked away and slammed the door behind him.
She walked past the backyard and sat under a big tree gazing up in to the boughs and twigs of the tree. She began to wonder why, from a single tree, there are different branches with varying degrees of thickness. But then, she also reckoned she is different from her brother, though both came from the same parents. She thought, “ He never did anything wrong apart from his domineering intelligence, mom and dad always say he is a gifted child, but who knows I am gifted in acting, too. Never mind, never mind, …”. No sooner did she repeat those last words like morning affirmations than her phone pinged, receiving new email about her recent audition for a movie on preproduction, stating that she was selected as a lead role in the movie.
