The Mother Who Refused to Bow

The Scroll of Isis

By KBPublished 10 months ago 3 min read

Before the rivers knew their names,

before men carved kings into the stone,

I was already weaving the breath of life into the world...

--------

The sun burned gold above the temple, its rays slicing through the columns of stone. The air shimmered with heat, carrying the scent of myrrh and the weight of a hundred whispered prayers. I stood at the edge of the Nile, its waters eternal, just as I was meant to be.

But eternity is never promised, not even to gods.

--------

They call me Isis, but they do not know me.

They know the stories written by those who feared me, by men who reshaped my magic into something soft, something tame.

But my magic is neither.

It is blood and bone, the breath between life and death.

It is the scream of a widow, the promise of a mother, the vengeance of a goddess who will not be denied.

--------

Osiris was gone. Torn apart, scattered to the winds by jealousy and treachery.

They thought they could erase him, but they underestimated me.

I walked through the desert, through the shadows of tombs and palaces alike, gathering the pieces of my beloved.

I wove him back together, not just with spells, but with defiance. With power they had long forgotten I possessed.

--------

But resurrection has a price.

--------

I knew what it would cost before I whispered the words, before I breathed life into what had been taken.

He would not return to me as he once was. No man, no god, escapes the grasp of death unscathed.

And so, he became something else—king of the underworld, ruler of the dead.

And I, his queen, his priestess, his warrior.

--------

They wrote me as the grieving wife, but they forget:

I was the storm that brought him back.

I was the blade in the dark, the weaver of fate, the mother of the god that would reshape the world.

--------

They feared me long before they erased me.

Before they rewrote me as gentle hands and folded wings, before they softened my defiance, they knew my power.

They knew the truth.

--------

I am the one who learned the secret name of Ra,

the name even the sun itself dared not speak aloud.

I did not inherit magic—I TOOK it.

I tricked the heavens,

I swallowed their light whole,

I spoke the words of creation and commanded them to bend.

--------

Do you remember?

--------

When the sandstorm came,

when the temples crumbled,

when my statues were shattered and my name was whispered in the dark,

I did not disappear.

--------

I became something deeper.

--------

I became the breath of those who call upon me still.

I became the unbroken chain of women who knew that death was never the end.

--------

I am the bloodline of queens who refused to bow,

of priestesses who carved my name into the stones even as their cities burned.

I am the voice in the wind that carries through generations,

in the quiet rebellions of those who remember that power is not given—it is taken back.

--------

They burned my temples.

They tried to strip me from the heavens.

But still, my name is whispered.

--------

In the wind.

In the water.

In the secret prayers of those who still remember.

--------

I am Isis.

I am resurrection.

I am the one who does not bow.

--------

And I am not done.

Speak my name in the silence between storms,

and you will awaken the river that never forgets.

About the Creator

KB

I never fit the mold—so I melted it.

Turned detours into doorways. Broke clocks. Built maps.

I write what they buried. I build what shouldn’t exist.

If you’re here, maybe you heard the signal too.

Welcome to the quiet uprising.
