The Lunchbox Nightmare

A Thriller of Deception and Danger

By Muhammad SameePublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Maggie had always been a bit of a loner. She was content with her life as a freelance writer, spending most of her days in her small apartment, typing away on her computer. But one day, her routine was disrupted when she found a lunchbox sitting on her doorstep.

She picked it up, examining it closely. It was a bright red lunchbox, the kind that kids used to carry to school. But this one was covered in dust and cobwebs, like it had been sitting in someone's attic for years. She shook it, and something rattled inside.

Curiosity getting the best of her, Maggie opened the lunchbox. Inside, she found a note that read: "Open only at noon."

Maggie was intrigued. She had no idea who had left the lunchbox or what was inside, but the mystery of it all was too much for her to resist. She decided to wait until noon to open it.

As the clock ticked closer to noon, Maggie's nerves began to get the best of her. She couldn't help but wonder what was inside the lunchbox, and who had left it for her. When noon finally arrived, she eagerly opened the lunchbox.

Inside, she found a sandwich, a bag of chips, and a bottle of water. But there was something else, too. A small, silver key was tucked into the corner of the lunchbox.

Maggie was puzzled. She had expected something more exciting, more mysterious. But the key was intriguing. She wondered what it could unlock.

Over the next few days, Maggie couldn't get the lunchbox out of her head. She tried to go about her normal routine, but she found herself constantly thinking about the key. Finally, she decided to do some investigating.

She traced the key to a storage unit on the other side of town. When she arrived, she found a locker with the same bright red lunchbox sitting inside. But this time, there was something different. The lunchbox was no longer covered in dust and cobwebs. It looked new, like it had been recently cleaned.

Maggie cautiously opened the lunchbox, and this time, she found a note that read: "You're getting closer."

Maggie's heart raced. She knew that she was in over her head, but she couldn't help herself. She had to know what was going on.

Over the next few weeks, the lunchbox appeared at random intervals, always with a new clue inside. Maggie followed the clues to abandoned buildings, old warehouses, and even a deserted amusement park.

Finally, she found herself standing in front of a large, imposing mansion on the outskirts of town. The lunchbox was sitting on the front steps, and a note read: "You've made it this far. But can you handle what's inside?"

Maggie hesitated for a moment, but then she steeled herself and opened the lunchbox. Inside, she found a final note that read: "Welcome to the game. You're the main course."

Suddenly, the ground shook beneath her feet, and the front door of the mansion swung open. A group of masked figures emerged, all wielding knives and forks. Maggie realized, with a sickening feeling in her stomach, that she was the lunch.

She turned and ran, sprinting as fast as she could through the empty streets. But the masked figures were hot on her heels, their laughter ringing in her ears.

Just when she thought it was over, Maggie saw a glimmer of hope. A police car was parked up ahead, and an officer was standing outside, talking to a neighbor. She screamed for help, and the officer quickly realized what was happening.

The masked figures were caught and arrested, and Maggie was left with a sense of relief, but also a lingering sense of fear. She couldn't shake the feeling that there were others out there, just waiting to play their sick game.

From that day forward, Maggie was never quite the same. She had been so close to becoming a victim, and the thought of it haunted her every waking moment. But she also knew that she was lucky to be alive, and she made a vow to never take her safety for granted again.

As she sat in her apartment, staring at the bright red lunchbox that had caused her so much trouble, she knew that she had to do something with it. She couldn't keep it, not after what it had put her through.

In the end, she decided to donate it to a local museum, where it could be put on display for all to see. She wanted to turn her ordeal into something positive, to use it as a warning to others.

And as she watched the lunchbox being carted away, she felt a small sense of closure. The nightmare was over, but the memory of it would stay with her forever.
