Once upon a time, a little girl lived with her parents in the deep heart of the forest. The little girl had no friends or any other family but her parents. Both her parents were single children and their siblings died in the great war many years ago. The little girl spent all of Christmas sitting by her bedroom window in great sadness, watching the snow falling laying its beautiful white quilt on the ground. She watched the children play snowball fights and sledding with their siblings and friends. A tear fell down her cheeks.

she wished that she was one of them.

The little girl desperately wanted to go outside and play with the other children. She had been stuck indoors for many Christmases because her parents fell into great sadness as they remembered their lost loved ones and they didn't want to join in with the Christmas spirit. It had been like this for many years. At any other time of the year, the little girl would sing to herself while swinging on the swings, she would watch fish swimming in the rivers, or, sit alone on a bench crying because she had no friends, aunts, uncles, grandparents, or cousins to keep her company.

Christmas Eve arrived.

The little girl sobbed alone into her pillows because she knew that Santa wouldn't be visiting her tomorrow. She knew that other children would wake up, excited to open their Christmas presents tomorrow, and she wouldn't be one of them.

She wished she had a colorful Christmas tree that she could dance and sing carols underneath. She wished that there would be presents and friends who she could share the joy of opening them with, but her Mother and Father stopped doing Christmas many years ago. They didn't see the point since there was nobody to share it with; it felt like they had forgotten about her.

When the little girl stopped crying, she wiped away her tears on tissue paper, and then she decided to write a letter to Santa.

Dear Santa,

I am ten years old, and every Christmas is lonely for me. My parents are still alive but I have no family or friends. You see Santa, my parents' family have all passed away; since that day my Mummy and Daddy have stopped celebrating Christmas because they are grieving. I don't get presents, and I never have decorations or a tree put up for me. I feel like my parents have forgotten me, though I know they don't mean to, and I know they still love me. It's just that they are grieving and they have forgotten what Christmas is supposed to be about. Will you please visit my house this year and put up a colorful Christmas tree with cheerful lights, and decorate my house so that I can remind my mummy and daddy that Christmas is meant to be a special time? Can you also please leave a Christmas present underneath the Christmas tree for mummy and daddy as I have no pennies to buy them one.

I love you Santa,

Ellie.

The little girl placed the letter in an envelope and left it by the fireplace for Santa to read. She then got into her warm bed and went to sleep where she had dreams of Santa visiting tomorrow.

The little girl woke up early Christmas morning, though she was feeling sad. She didn't want to go downstairs because she thought that Santa wasn't going to visit her house.

After all, there was no reason for Santa to visit. There was nobody to pass presents for herself or her mummy and daddy.

A few tears fell down her cheeks, but she forced herself out of her bed, got dressed, and went downstairs for breakfast. When she opened the living room door, she thought she was dreaming.

A Colorful Christmas tree and decorations had been put up, and there were presents underneath the tree. The tree was beautiful, it was decorated with beautiful baubles and tinsel, and her living room had been transformed. She walked over to the Christmas tree excitedly; She found a huge sack of Christmas presents for herself, and a nice big present for her mummy and daddy.

There was a note for her.

Dear Ellie,

Merry Christmas to you and your parents'

No child or family should ever have to feel lonely during this wonderful time. I hope your season is full of cheer, and that you and your mummy and daddy enjoy the Christmas gifts. Be sure to check your kitchen!

Love Santa.

The little girl ran into the kitchen feeling dizzy with happiness. When she opened the door, her jaw dropped.

There was enough food to feed an entire village!

The little girl beamed and squealed with joy.

Now, she could give mummy and daddy the Christmas that they deserved!

The little girl's parents were still asleep as it was only early. She decided to let them sleep for a bit. She would make them breakfast when they woke up.

The little girl knew that her mummy and daddy would ask lots of questions. However; that didn't matter.

What mattered is that Santa loved her enough to help her make her dream of Christmas come true, and she was now able to remind her parents that although life can feel lonely sometimes, we are never truly alone.

Thank you for reading my story which is a story about love and thinking of others who often get forgotten at Christmas time. I hope that you really enjoyed it and a merry Christmas to you all.
