The prompt is:

Write a letter (it can be in poem form if you so choose, or not) from a deranged lighthouse keeper to their deceased lover, confessing to a horrific act they committed in order to keep the light burning.

The Lighthouse Keeper's Letter

My Dear Wife

You know I love you, but we had to keep the light shining in the lighthouse for as long as we could. We had to maintain this beacon so that the sailors out there could be safe. I know you understand why we did what had to be done.

They said we were mad and stopped sending supplies, but fish and seagulls provided ample sustenance, but when the lantern failed, we replaced it with a fire brazier that we used brush wood in, and then when all the wood was gone, we started chopping up the funiture, and when that was gone...

..... well you burned brightly for two nights, after I had cut you up with that rusty axe, but you kept the sailors safe and that made us happy.

I've cleared your remains from the brazier, and tonight I will dose myself in petrol and keep the lighthouse going for another day or two. I know you will be happy with what I am doing, and I know you would do the same if you hadn't gone first.
