A hunter was hacking away at a tree. Each successive swing of the axe dealt a deeper blow and splinters erupted, covering the forest floor.

The sun finally set and shadows grew larger. He buried his axe on the felled trunk, wiped his brow and left. Beads of sweat trickled down his face and spattered on the stump.

The next day he arrived with his friend to witness the felled trunk back on the stump again. The trunk was the colour of the axe wood and the branches bore grey metal leaves.
