The Lady At Night

The Ghost Silhouette

By raphwritesPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

I woke up in the middle of the night one time because I was sick.

This was years ago.

Due to my illness, I wasn't really conscious of my surroundings then.

I could barely walk, stare without my eyes getting weary, so I kept to my bed all the time and had my mother doing everything for me.

So, this one time, I jerked up in the middle of the night, with the pressing need to have my mother's nearby. Not for anything specific.

I called out to her, with a voice as weak as my limbs.

In the near darkness of my room, I saw, through my drowsy eyes, the door of my room slowly swing open, then a woman who I thought in my half-awake state to be my mother walking in.

The woman came to my bedroom, sat on my bed, held me by my right arm and began to fan me. Noticing how I shivered although my body was burning hot, the woman rubbed me over my body with something I presumed to be kernel oil.

I slowly went to sleep afterwards.

When I woke up the next morning, I staggered outside for breakfast, and made a remark to my mother, about how I felt better because of the thing she rubbed on my body the previous night, thanking her.

Much to my shock, my mother said she never came into my room the previous night, and my dad attested to this. They were together the whole night.

When I persisted, my mother laughed and said I was probably dreaming.

The weirdest thing was, two days later, rashes began to spread all over my body, starting right from the spot the woman had held my hand.

It was chickenpox.
