"Where are we going?"

"You'll see."

"Why won't you just tell me?"

"Well, that would defeat the purpose of a surprise, now, wouldn't it?"

"You know I don't like surprises."

"And you know I love surprising you."

"This is so unfair."

"You knew what you were getting into before you got in the car. It's not unfair."

"I expected you to cave. You can't just suddenly tell someone to pack for a roadtrip, no questions asked."

"I also told you what to pack. Which in case you don't recall, you did, and you got in the car."

"I like roadtrips."

"You don't seem to like this one."

"You won't tell me where we're going!"

"I don't see how that's relevant."

"You don't see how that's relevant?"

"No, not at all. Not when we started this whole trip with, 'Hey, we're going on a roadtrip. Please pack your favorite jeans, that new top you bought last week, comfortable walking shoes, and whatever you need for one night. We'll be back tomorrow.' I think I was fairly clear."

"Will we be back tomorrow?"

"Yes, babe, we'll be back tomorrow night."

"And how do I know you're not lying?"

"Why I on Earth would I be lying?"

"I don't know. You could be lulling me into a false sense of security. Are you kidnapping me?"

"No, I told your mom where we're going."

"I could call her."

"She won't tell you where we're going either. She likes me too much to spoil the surprise."

"Okay, this is seriously not fair."

"You'll think it's fair when we get there."

"You can't know that."

"I know you."

"It's been two hours!"

"And we have two more to go."

"You're not going to keep our destination from me for two more hours. You'll have to pull up the GPS eventually."

"I know the way. I can keep this up the whole time."

"Please, Robin."

"If I tell you, you're going to spend the rest of this trip anxious to get there. You'll miss the journey."

"I'm already anxious to get there."

"Don't you trust me?"

"I guess."

"We've been together for three years, and you only guess you trust me?"

"Okay, yeah, I trust you."

"Then take a breath and try to enjoy the journey."

"Fine. Can we stop for snacks?"

"Yeah, keep an eye on the exit signs. We can do lunch or a good gas station convenience store haul, whatever you want."

"What about both?"

"Whatever you want, darling."

"But not to know where we're going."

"Do you want a hint?"

"Really?"

"If you want."

"Yes, I want a hint."

"We have tickets and a reservation to make. It's something you want."

"What did you do?"

"Something you asked for."

"I didn't ask for anything, though."

"You said you wanted something."

"You didn't!"

"I might have. Depends on what you're asking me."

"Are we going to New York right now? Isn't that farther than two more hours away?"

"The train isn't more than two hours away."

"We're going to New York!"

"We're going to the Whitney like you wanted."

"Where are we staying?"

"Hey, I can't tell you everything. Some of this has to stay a surprise."

"I knew you'd cave."

"Just focus on figuring out where we're stopping for food."

Loved this 😄 The banter is so natural and cozy—felt like I was in the back seat listening in. Lowkey, I feel like Robin planned this weeks ago and just waited for the perfect moment to drop it. Intuition says… snacks were also strategically chosen.

I love how romantic this is without being mushy. Great entry.
