The Cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. This peculiar log cabin had folks tell crazy stories but one story caught many people's attention and believed it was in the penny papers twelve years ago.
The Daily Penny Press
August 1867, Suzan Miller, was hanged for witchcraft and the involvement of the disappearance of her child and husband. The youngest child’s carcass was found in the woods, a few miles south from the family's log cabin. The Millers home is now derelict.
A young man was out hunting with his father, unfortunately they’ve lost the targeted deer they’ve been trying to catch. Minutes turned into hours so they’ve decided to look in the morning and camped it out for the night. The young hunter’s father went for some shut eye while he stayed up gazing at the galaxy.
Rustle,Rustles.
He heard and decided to have a look. Every sound that crossed his ear made him follow and took him straight to the abandoned cabin. Hollow sounds coming from a broken window, strange items hanging from the porch, wood swollen from the rain, and the young hunter knew no one came near this side of the woods for some unknown reason. He circled the cabin with a kerosene lamp and admired how it still stood. Suddenly he felt a rush of wind behind him and glazed towards the woods,as he countered back and saw a light coming from inside, a candle.
“Light?” He questioned.
The young hunter approached closer and stopped as soon as he heard the wood creaking not from the wind but footsteps, ever so lightly. He walked backwards keeping his eyes on the door but stopped as he heard rustling of leaves behind him and head turned rather quickly hurting his neck. Back again, giving his attention to the cabin with more wood creaking and suddenly a rush of heavy footsteps as if whatever it was, started running towards his direction. His heart dropped, eyes widen and took a large inhale and turned so quickly that he almost lost his balance but regained it back. The boy rushed into the thick trees as he dropped the oil lamp then he stopped, catching his breath and looked back once he regained his posture. The hunter believed he no longer was being followed from whatever it was. He finally reached his canvas but struggles to sleep throughout the night.
The following morning, the young hunter and his father prepped themselves to look for the deer they'd lost the previous day. As the hunters walked through the woods they kept their eyes peeled, a few minutes passed, the young boy finally decided to break the silence and ask his father about the cabin. His father proceeded with a hunter's story.
“Many hunters believe the souls of a woman and her child roam there. Just a story, nothing to worry about.”
The young hunter felt his hair stand and remembered what had happened that night.
“ Does anyone live there?” He asked
“ What? The chalet? No, it's been abandoned for quite some time.” His father replied and walked ahead finally reaching their destination.
They both crouched down as they spy on the targeted deer, he had the largest antlers they had ever seen. The young hunter ready his Flintlock rifle and pointed, keeping it steady. Suddenly the stag looks up and back at the hunters in just seconds and runs off.
“Dang it!” The young man’s father said as he rushed up and they both chased after it. Minutes later the stag is nowhere to be spotted.
“It’s getting dark, we should probably head back.” His father suggested
And once again they camped it out for the night but this time his father stayed up with his son, having rabbit for dinner and drinking bivvy. They both chatted and laughed until the night sky was pitched black. “Well nature calls.” Said the hunter, slapped both of his knees and raised up from a boulder. The hunter corned as he was, wobbled to his tree with little balance that he had.
Micheal
The hunter jumped from his skin and turned around but saw nothing and heard nothing else. He continued his business but the strange voice recur.
Micheal
The hunter freaked out and stepped away from the tree as he zipped back his pants and glanced around.
Micheal it’s me
“It can’t be,” he thought. He followed closer and closer after a woman’s voice and led him straight to the cabin. He stood and watched as a candle lit up, flickering from the window, he saw a reflection of a small child. Tears rained from his eyes as he dropped from his knees. “ I’m so sorry, I didn’t want to leave you.” He weeped “ I didn’t mean to, my baby boy..”
Micheal..Micheal Micheal. Where’s my son? I’m so lonely. Why don’t you bring me my boy so we can be a family again.
“No! You..you gutted our son, you conjured that.. that thing into our home.” The hunter said with teary eyes. “Because of you I had to take our son away from this or he’d….. he’d end up like our baby boy.” The hunter stood up and wiped his tears from his scowl face and gave one last look at the cabin as he was ready to let go and turned his back.
Micheal!
A raged voice echoed through the trees but it wasn’t the woman’s voice. No. This time it was an unknown presence. Shivers ran down the hunter's spine. The hunter turned around, at that moment he saw something, something unexplainable, something that made his heart accelerate.
Michael… we are waiting for you..your wife and son are waiting for you. Come with us, I can give you everything.
The hunter's eyes widen and before he could try to escape , the presence appeared before him in a blink of an eye. It grabbed him by the neck and lifted him from the ground as it opened its mouth wide and at that moment a loud scream left Micheals body.
The young hunter jumped from his seat and looked from the direction of the cabin. “Dad?” The young hunter grabs his rifle and rushes off without a second thought. “Dad!” He called out but had no response back. The young hunter finally reached the cabin and when he arrived, his eyes passed through the cracked window. Instead of one candle like the previous night he saw two lit up, no reflection but a familiar voice that echoed through the cabin.
“Dad? Is that you?”
Connor
“Dad?”
Connor
“Dad, that's not even funny” the young hunter said as he approached the cabin's old rusty door. The young hunter opened the door and gave a quick glance. He never felt this frightened before, even at that moment he could not move or scream. He felt frozen in time when the apparition appeared before him. Connors body drifted from the decrepit floor, he felt a force against his chest and couldn’t speak or move.
Coooonnnnooorr!
The Cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window or as it once was known as. Micheal and his son were reported missing but nothing was found. Now, many folks who walk by this cabin see three lit candles that never burn out. Sometimes folks can hear voices of a young man and can hear a small child giggling. Today the cabin is an attraction for ghost hunters and is known as historical land.
