This story is part of the Vocal + Assist on Facebook Lost in a Story Challenge. You can learn more about it here:

My name is Killi. As the official groomer to Aslan, it was my job to see to it that his majestic and stnning mane always looked in tip-top shape. Before he returned to Narnia after a long sabbatical, doing whatever Christ-like beings in the guise of huge and wise lions do when they're not visiting their home. Anyway, before he returned, I had to get all the knotting out of his mane. He may be one of themost powerful beings and wisest of them all, but he's not the best at looking after himself, let me tell you that for nothing.

The reason he looked his best that day at The Stone Table, was down to yours truly.

Did I get credit? No! Did I get paid? You better believe your friend got that money.

When he went to see those troublesome kids, Peter, Susan and...what was her name? Ah, that's it Lucy and those annoying Beavers. Who do you think washed his mane and blew on it to dry it out?

That's right, me.

I must admit, my position did make me privvy to a lot of the goingson behind the scenes. Like when he went to visit The White Witch and made a special agreement with her over his life for Edmund's.

Did he take my position into consideration? My livelihood or the fact that I had to provide for two lots of three children from my two wives? No, he did not.

Anyway, I heard his lordship passed away. I am not telling you whether he lives or dies. All I know is my top client is gone and I am seriously considering heading to the Witch and asking if she needs a personal groomer. I can also cook. Maybe she will like my gespatcho.

Thanks for reading!

Author's Notes: Sorry L.C., hah! Also, as a nice and interesting aside Aslan is taken from Turkish and translates as Lion, so for my MC I decided to use the Turkish word for hairy, Killi.

I hope you enjoyed my odd take on this great challenge. I suspect, if I find the time, I will enter more. We shall see...I have some ideas. It's a great challenge.

I absolutely loved this! Narnia is one of my favorites and I love the creativity of your story. I have become a new subscriber - I have enjoyed just starting to read your stories - old and new!

  • Paul, you did it... this is a true winner. I really enjoyed reading this sorta behind the scenes look Narnia. Yes, time for Killi to go knocking on the White Witches door after all you have two sets of three children to feed.

  • This was so creative Sir Paul! Also, Killi means Parrot in Tamil. So that's how I imagined you to be, lol!

Why sorry, this is brilliant! 😁

  • In this position, the "mane" thing is not make things even "hairier" than they already are. I do believe that there's every possibility that your prospects will be revived, your career resurrected.
