Everything was a swirling mess. I crawled on wet pavement while drowning in a stew of whisky and regret. I was so alone, or so I believed.

Someone’s hand settled on my back. With persistence, they helped me to stand up. My eyes met theirs. Eyes filled with warm kindness.

"You got this," She smiled.

Turning away, I began to throw up what felt like years of anger and self-pity. When I was finished, she was gone. I gave up alcohol right then and there. I don’t know her name, but I'll never forget the girl who stood me up.

I love how you used the double meaning in stood me up. Very powerful story about the impact of kindness.
