THE GIRL WHO HATED HOSPITALS (Episode 3)

Adaeze sat by the riverbank, the cool breeze brushing against her face. The events of the past few days weighed heavily on her mind. The dreams, the hospital visits, and the mysterious woman from the river all pointed to something beyond her understanding.

She recalled Elder Chibuzo's words: "Your connection to the marine realm is strong." But what did that truly mean? She needed answers.

Determined to uncover the truth, Adaeze decided to visit her grandmother's old friend, Mama Nkechi, known for her deep knowledge of traditional beliefs and the spiritual world.

Upon arriving at Mama Nkechi's hut, the elderly woman welcomed her with a warm smile.

"Adaeze, I've been expecting you," she said, her eyes gleaming with wisdom

Surprised, Adaeze asked, "How did you know I was coming?"

Mama Nkechi chuckled softly. "The spirits whispered to me. They said you'd seek guidance."

Adaeze shared her experiences, from the hospital visits to the dreams and the mysterious woman.

Mama Nkechi listened intently, nodding occasionally.

Mama Nkechi listened to every word without interruption, her wrinkled fingers slowly stirring a pot of herbs beside her. When Adaeze finished, silence filled the small hut. Only the soft crackling of the fire and chirping of distant crickets could be heard.

"My child," Mama Nkechi finally said, her voice low and steady, "your spirit walks in two worlds—one of flesh, the other of water. Your fear of hospitals is not just from pain, but from memory... from a battle you once fought and won, long before you understood what it meant."

Adaeze’s brows furrowed. “What battle?”

Mama Nkechi sighed, reached behind her stool, and pulled out an old, faded cloth. She unwrapped it to reveal a small wooden carving shaped like a fish, with a human face.

"This was given to your mother before you were born,” she said. “You were meant to be offered—taken by the water spirits as a bride. But your mother refused. She ran to the church, to prayers, and rejected the covenant."

Adaeze’s heart raced. “So… they’ve been trying to get me back?”

Mama Nkechi nodded solemnly. “Yes. And they’ve been watching ever since.”

What can I do , Adaeze asked

Mama Nkechi replied. "You can embrace your heritage and seek balance between the physical and spiritual realms, or you can ignore it and continue to face turmoil."

Adaeze pondered the decision. The idea of embracing a world she barely understood was daunting, but the thought of continued confusion and fear was even more unsettling.

"I'm ready to learn," she declared.

Mama Nkechi smiled. "Then we shall begin."

Over the next few days, Adaeze immersed herself in learning about her heritage. Mama Nkechi taught her about the river goddess, the significance of dreams, and the rituals to maintain harmony between the physical and spiritual worlds.

One evening, during a cleansing ritual by the river, Adaeze felt a surge of energy flow through her. The water shimmered, and the mysterious woman appeared once more.
