She lays in her bed at nigth crippled by the thought of going back to her one-horse town, called Lindel. The thought of facing reality after bing in the city of Springsdale was a daunting task. This wasn't your typical vacation for this small-town girl. One day prior to this last-minute vacation, Carlie's boyfriend broke up with her. Deep down she thought he was the last thing she had left. She did not have any family or close friends in home town and this was finally going to break her, or so she thought.
The day of the tragic event felt like it was going to last forever, as she stood in his kitchen listening to the words, sounding as if they were muffled and coming from a mile away, she froze, every breath getting harder and harder to take. Little did Carlie know on that warm june day her life was about to change. While trying to process what just happened and the extent of the situation, the only thing she could think about was her mother and her boyfriend Brad. She called her mother and with her voice shaking, with pure desperation, she relayed what had happened. Carlie felt as if this was a nightmare that she would soon wake up from. Unfortunately morning never came. Carlie then gathered her belongings, walking out to her car with noodles for legs. She finally got everything loaded, still in shock with what just hit her. She made it to her apartment and just dropped onto her couch begging God for answers of what to do. Should she put in her two weeks at her job? should she break down in despair? or keep staring off into space at the white stucco wallls and hope the answer would just fall from the ceiling, right in front of her.
At 10:30pm she somewhat got her barrings together, and packed up everything she could think of, she wasn't sure how long she was going to be gone and she didn't quite care. All she knew is she had to get out of there at once! It was getting harder to breathe and she could hear cars passing by her tiny apartment, without a care in their mind, not knowing the girl in room 307 was falling apart.
All she wanted to do was sleep and forget about the whole world, but she knew she couldn't let herself climb back into that bottomless pit. She got herself up and headed out the door, unsure of where the money was going to come from, what she was going to tell her boss, and how long she would be gone, but she did not care, none of these things held a candle to what she was going through in that particular moment. After loading up her car and getting gas she headed out, watching her little town in the rear-view mirror, not wanting to ever return. She watched each reflector pole pass her as she zoned out ahead, into darkness. The cars coming at her were just a blur and then it started to storm, the smell of rain filled her car and lightning flashed all around her. The things she used to love, didn't even faze her. She continued to watch the cars infront of her jelously, just wishing she were them and in a different life. Anything than the mental turmoil she was facing in this moment.
She gets to another town down the road, a little under half way to her destination. Her eyes grew heavy and she then realized all of the crying wore her out more than she thought. She felt the adrenaline of the situation start to fade and tiredness started to take over. She then called her dad to tell him what was going on and how tired she was. Carlie's dad was such a charasmatic man who loved his daughter unconditionally. He then put money into her accont within minutes, so she could get a motel room and start over in the morning. Carlie then pulled over to book a room and she couldn't help to think of all the fun memories she had in motel rooms and all of the enjoyable moments associated with them, but this was a complete different scenerio.
She lay in her bed, with the fresh white sheets covering her body and with each breath she took she could smell the chlorine and bleach the maids used to clean her bedding. Each breath getting deeper and slower, she finally fell asleep. BEEP BEEP BEEP, the alarm made Carlie jump right out her dream, for a split second trying to recollect where she was. She pulls the comforter off of her , dreading leaving her sleepy slumber because that was the only time she wasn't thinking about what happened to her. Carlie got herself put together, grabbed the key and headed to the lobby to check out. The nice lady at the front desk, who was wearing way too much purfume, asked how her stay was. Carlie desperately wanted to break down in tears and tell this nice lady what exacly she was going through and that the stay could have been better, but she bit her lip and replied "it was great thank you."
Carlie hit the road, sipping on her motel coffee, that was a little too watered down for her tase but she was so tired she downed it anyway. She could not wait to hold her mother in her arms and forget all about what happened in her one-horse town.
