I woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring from my phone. I turned over and groaned and swiped blindly on the phone until it finally shut off. Monday. Great. I dragged my body out of bed and changed out of my pajamas. I pulled on a pair of dark-washed jeans and a polka dot tee shirt.
I went downstairs where I could smell the dark roast coffee already brewing. My dad was glancing at his newspaper at a distance with his glasses halfway down his nose. My mom was by the window and drinking her coffee in her bathrobe. Normal morning.
"Morning Sunshine," chimed my mom.
"Morning," I said in a rough tone. I cleared my throat. "Morning," this time it was clear.
"Hi Mia," said my dad without glancing up from his paper. I grabbed a mug and started to fill it with coffee.
"Mia, you are much too young to be drinking coffee," said my mom as she observed me pouring the caffeine into my mug.
"Oh hush darling, she's old enough to have it," responded my dad.
"it will be your fault if she can't sleep tonight," she said with a smile and she put her empty mug into the sink.
"And I will gladly take the blame," he said with a sarcastic smile.
I drank a few sips and I went to brush my teeth. Just a normal Monday. I checked my phone and it was my best friend Claire wanting to meet me in the city library before school. I rushed out the door without saying goodbye. I got to the library, so far it was Claire, a boy from my bio class, his twin, my other friend Stacy and me. I sat down next to Claire. Claire was a petite framed girl, with bleach blonde hair and wire-rimmed glasses, she always wore her hair in a perfect braid and she was unaware by the number of boys that did a double-take every time she passed them. Stacy my other best friend was of average build, her hair was fiery red and it was always curled, her make-up was done flawlessly and her green eyes were large and round and she was not concerned with her grades in any manner, she was at the table filing her nails and trying to get the twins attention who were at the table adjacent from us. The twins' names were Dylan and for the life of me I cannot remember the other one's name, but they were relatively attractive dark brown hair and large brown eyes.
"Hi Mia," said Claire as I came up to their table. I sat down and unloaded my backpack as Stacy was taking selfies of herself "studying".
"Hey Claire, do you need help with the biology homework?" I asked and I flipped open my biology textbook.
"Sure, I was almost up all night studying, but I just need a quick review," she said as she adjusted her glasses and looked expectantly at me.
"Okay, fine. I will help you but you don't need it, you've gotten 100 percent on every test," I told her.
"Hey umm, guys? I can't get out of the library. Have you seen the librarian by chance?" asked the twin named Dylan.
"No, there's still like thirty minutes to the bell though," said Stacy as she sent a Snapchat with her tongue sticking out.
I kept quizzing Claire on her biology notes and it was refreshing to read someone else’s writing with better notes. Mine looked like a three-year-old had written them. The boys were still up trying to get out of the library and shaking the doors.
“Guys, you need to relax!” Said Stacy in her annoyed tone. The two brothers looked at each other they sighed and both of them slumped down at the table they were at earlier.
It was five minutes to the first bell, we packed up our textbooks and belongings into our backpacks and went for the door it was still locked. I tried to pull it or push it, but it would not budge.
“I tried to tell you it was locked,” commented non-Dylan twin. Seriously, why couldn’t remember his name?
“Okay, well someone has to come get us. People walk by the library all the time,” said Claire as she pushed her glasses back on her nose. The bell rang and we all saw a rush of students walk by and not glancing at the library doors or windows. The halls went silent, and we waited for a single passerby to notice us. I heard the distinctive clicking of heels, which belonged to our principal Mrs. Havensby. She stopped at the library door and unlocked it.
“You should all sit down,” she instructed and we all did.
“Great, I got the librarian to close the doors on you all because I have noticed that the five of you have been coming in here everyday,” she said calmly. “Rumours around the school have been spreading that you are all part of a cult,” she said sternly and I giggled.
“Mia this is serious, even if the accusations are not true. Unfortunately, you are all banned from the library,” she said and Stscy’s jaw dropped, Claire’s face blanched and the twins raised their eyebrows at each other.
“Are we also banned from studying?” Stacy asked sarcastically.
“No, studying is allowed,” she said. “I don’t want to see you in here again,” and she clicked away back to her office. We all stood there completely stunned.
“This is ridiculous!” Exclaimed Claire.
“Where are we supposed to do anything?” Asked Dylan as we stood just outside the school library.
“I know! We will all gather in the courtyard and we will have our study group,” said non-Dylan.
“Don’t be stupid,” replied Dylan.
“No, it’s brilliant! Yeah we will create a study club…we can call ourselves…we need a name,” I said.
“How about the banned librarians!” Suggested Claire.
“Eww no. I think we should call ourselves The Frozen Library” said Stacy and we all looked at her with approval. “I know, I’m more than just social media.”
“See you tomorrow The Frozen Library will meet up in the morning,” I announced.
“See you then!” Said non-Dylan and we all went our separate ways disappearing into our classroom.
