The Forgotten Letter

"The Power of Written Words"

By jose nino bellezaPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

Nina had always loved writing letters. In the age of instant messaging and social media, she found solace in the art of writing down her thoughts and feelings on paper. She had a pen pal named Alex, whom she had been writing to for years. They had never met in person, but their letters had formed a deep connection between them.

One day, Nina received a letter from Alex, saying that he would be visiting her town and wanted to finally meet her in person. She was overjoyed and spent the next few days planning the perfect day for their meeting.

On the day of the meeting, Nina waited nervously at the coffee shop they had agreed upon. She sipped her coffee and checked her watch, wondering if Alex would really show up. Just as she was about to give up hope, she saw him walking towards her with a bouquet of flowers in hand. She stood up to greet him, feeling a flutter in her stomach.

They spent the day talking and laughing, as if they had known each other their whole lives. It was as if their letters had formed a bond that transcended time and distance. As the day drew to a close, Alex walked Nina home and they exchanged a sweet kiss on her doorstep.

In the weeks that followed, Nina and Alex went on more dates and their love blossomed. Nina felt like she had finally found the missing piece in her life. But then one day, Alex stopped answering her letters and phone calls. Nina was confused and hurt, wondering what could have gone wrong.

Months went by without any word from Alex. Nina had almost given up hope when she received a package in the mail. It was a letter from Alex, explaining that he had been diagnosed with a rare disease and had to leave the country for treatment. He apologized for not being able to tell her earlier and promised to come back to her as soon as he could.

Nina felt a mix of emotions - relief at finally knowing the truth, but also sadness and worry for Alex's health. She wrote him back immediately, pouring her heart out on paper. Weeks turned into months, and Nina continued to write to Alex, hoping that he was getting better and would come back to her soon.

One day, Nina was cleaning out her closet when she found a box of old letters. She went through them one by one, reliving the memories of their conversations and moments shared. But then she found a letter that she had never read before. It was from Alex, written before he left for treatment.

In the letter, Alex had poured his heart out to Nina, confessing his love for her and how much he had been looking forward to building a future together. Nina felt a wave of emotion wash over her, realizing that the love between them had been there all along, but they had never been able to express it in person.

Nina wrote back to Alex, telling him how much she loved him and how she couldn't wait to see him again. Days turned into weeks, and then finally, a letter arrived from Alex. He was back in the country and wanted to meet her again. Nina felt like her heart was about to burst with joy.

They met at the same coffee shop where they had first met, and this time, there was no nervousness or uncertainty. They held each other's hands and smiled, knowing that their love had stood the test of time and distance.
