As a child, Rachel loved hearing stories about her grandfather's heroic deeds during World War II. He had been a pilot, flying dangerous missions to protect his country from enemy attacks. Rachel was proud of her grandfather's bravery and always looked up to him as a role model.

But as Rachel grew older, she noticed that her grandfather became more and more withdrawn. He would sit in his armchair for hours, staring blankly at the television. He rarely spoke, and when he did, his voice was distant and detached.
