It started with a whisper.

Eleanor had lived in the old Victorian house for years, yet she had never noticed the peculiar door in the basement. It was hidden behind dusty shelves filled with books no one had read in decades. One stormy evening, as the wind howled outside, she found herself drawn to it. The door was unlike the others—its wood was ancient, the carvings cryptic, and when she placed her hand on the handle, a chill ran down her spine.

She turned the knob.

The moment the door creaked open, an icy gust of wind rushed past her, carrying a scent she couldn't place—something old, something forgotten. Beyond the threshold lay a staircase spiraling downward into darkness. The basement was supposed to end at that wall. How was this possible?

Heart pounding, Eleanor stepped inside.

The air grew thick with whispers—soft, urgent voices speaking in a language she didn't understand. The deeper she went, the louder they became. The walls were lined with portraits, their eyes following her every move. Then she saw it: a mirror, its surface rippling like water.

Curiosity overcame fear. She reached out, and the moment her fingers touched the glass, she felt herself being pulled in.

Suddenly, she was no longer in her basement.

She stood in the same house, but everything was different. The walls were pristine, the furniture polished. Sunlight streamed through the windows, and laughter echoed down the halls. She recognized the voices—her parents, her sister—but that was impossible. They had been gone for years.

Then she saw herself. A younger version of Eleanor sat on the floor, playing with a porcelain doll. The realization hit her like a freight train—she had traveled back in time.

A voice called out, "Eleanor, darling, dinner’s ready!"

Tears welled up in her eyes. She wanted to run to them, to hold them. But as she took a step forward, the world around her began to shatter like broken glass. The whispers returned, screaming now.

She was being pulled back.

Eleanor gasped as she stumbled out of the mirror, landing hard on the basement floor. The door slammed shut behind her, the whispers silenced. She turned to look—the door was gone, as if it had never existed.

Had she imagined it all?

But then she noticed something clutched in her hand—a porcelain doll, just like the one from her past.

And it was still warm.

Shaken, Eleanor rushed upstairs, her heart racing. She set the doll on the kitchen counter and tried to collect herself. Was it truly a time portal? A doorway to lost memories? She had so many questions but no answers

That night, she dreamt of the door again. This time, she wasn’t alone.

A shadowy figure stood on the other side, watching........
