The Firs Don’t Care About...
Microfiction

The holidays.
And yet, every year, families drive out to tree farms to select and chop down what they deem to be worthy Christmas trees.
Then, they take the Firs home and decorate them with ornaments, tinsel, beads, and who knows what else.
If a cat resides in the home, the Firs endure countless clawing and climbing.
Or being drained dry if the family dog decides to drink their water.
And don’t forget the kids playing with their branches, sometimes breaking them off.
Not to mention, if they’re standing by a hearth, sparks threatening to set them ablaze.
After the holidays are done, the trees have their decorations removed and are driven off to a place no one should be disposed of, becoming only a faint memory before next Christmas.
Oh, the poor Firs.
